coolant resevoir

Post by wildacex187 »

hey guys i've noticed that when i fill the coolant metal tank (not the reserve tank) after i turn the engine on some coolant starts to spew out. not at high pressure or anything just slowly. is this normal? am i not suppose to fill it? when the motor gets hot there is pressure built up there with the rad cap and stuff.

You mean the one up near the firewall, on top of the engine? If so, that should be kept full, and it shouldn't leak. If its the original one, its actually plastic, and breaks after years of being heat cycled. You can get a new one from the dealer, but you'd be better off finding / buying a metal one from a WRX. There's a couple of threads with pictures and descriptions of how and where people have mounted the WRX ones.
