EJ20G block / ej22t head hybird ?

Post by BXSS »

I know the EJ20G block / ej22t head hybird is supposed to give a fairly boost friendly Compression Ratio of about a 9:1, but what head gaskets are used in this franken-motor?

We used Ej22T gaskets when we did it.

Why that over the 2.2?? Bigger than 2.0 and 2.0 open deck instead of closed,no?

I'm sure they're extra parts from a DOHC head swap...much like the extra parts piling up here...

Cool those will be easy to find.
I was hoping I would not need to hunt down some gaskets that are impossible to find.

These are spare parts in the garage that I'm playing with, but the 9:1ish compression ratio will help make up what is lost in displacement @ a given boost level on this set-up.
BUT
To be Honest with you I yanked the ej22t from my SS & popped in a EJ20G open deck motor which was MUCH quicker than the ej22t in my SS. The DOHC EJ20G gave up a little low rpm power but more than made up for it on the mid-top end vs a ej22t. I have pushed a TD05-16G to as much as 20psi (NO Taper) into the open deck EJ20G with no issue - not really alot of boost but not really a little boost either.

I will not go back to a ej22t in the Legacy, its ej22t shortblock will live in my OBS-t eventually.
When I kill the Open decked EJ20G I have a STi RA EJ20G (Closed Deck, Forged rod & PISTONS - stock!) waiting to go into a car - more spare parts...

He said not really a lot, not really a little. I think that's pretty accurate. A lot of the super high performance Subarus run 25-30psi. That's a lot.
