95 ej20g into 92 turbo leg

So I've tried searching, and it seems all I can find is threads for early year 20g swaps.

The motor I'm swapping is from a 95 auto wrx wagon. I've been told that I can essentially swap over my whole harness from the 22 with a couple minor mods and a couple pin relocations on the ecu. I'm curious if this is true throughout all year ej20g's, or just the legacy/liberty 20g, and if not, what do I need to do differently for wiring. I'm not the most familiar with Subaru, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

it applies to the impreza 20g's too. you're good to go. easy swap

the only weird one is the later model forester g with the under manifold turbo inlet

You gonna swap in that auto trans to get yourself some VTD with a 36:64 torque split? ;)

So that should apply to the boost solenoid stuff as well then correct? You wouldn't happen to know what wires need extending too would you?

So new question to go along, 20g tps is 3 wire, 22 tips is 4 wire. Can I just ground the unshielded brown wire to the motor?

I am not sure about the TPS. I know the brown wire is for Ifle Switch on the 22T.

You'll also need to rewire your ignition to use coil on plug. If I end up doin my 20g swap, I'll be buying Rob's 4to2 Ignition Converter.

A lot of the dohc guys had to flip their 22t throttle body upside down to still use their throttle body on the dohc manifold. Me and kimo had to make our own 1/4" throttle body spacer so the half moon shaped throttle plates would clear the intake manifold. You probably wont get the car to run at all with the 3 wire tps unless you have a standalone ecu.

Just curious, why use the 4-2 ignition converter when you can just run the 4 wires from the ecu to new coils and power and ground then convert to coil on pulg?

Wait, so does the 95/96 WRX EJ20G have a different TPS than the 93/94? From my understanding the V1-V2 all used the same sensors, and only the Forester EJ20G was different.

That I do not know, I used an ej20H setup for my dohc swap and could not use the TPS. I believe kimo had some forester dohc heads and intake manifold so he could not use the tps, and Jake15 used some later style dohc heads and intake and told us to make a 1/4" spacer out of aluminum and rotate our stock throttle bodys 180 degrees and move some wiring.

The TPS in the first gen overseas Legacy was also a 4 pin TPS. I don't know if the early overseas WRX from the 93-94 era have the 4 pin or 3 pin TPS.

I know the 93/94 have it. And I was pretty certain the 95-96 had it too. In the EJ20G ECU threads it mentions ECUs up to 96 off the WRX working on our cars without modification to the TPS wiring.

CJ, I'm pretty sure that you and Kimo had different motors. Obviously the 20H and if Kimo had Forester heads that would explain why your guys TPS are different. I'm pretty sure 20G's up to 96' have compatible TPS sensors.

Thats good to know. I hate my spacer, my throttle body has gotten stuck open being wedged on my compressor outlet coupler.

For sure the forester tps will not work. Its 3 wire and not compatible. I don't know what tps comes on the 95+ wrx but rob would know.

The spacer sucks indeed. Mine doesn't cause any problems but running the throttle body upside down so the linkage is on the correct side for the idm manifold makes accessing the tps connector a real pain in the ass. The spacer makes the tmic fitment just that much more difficult. The jdm throttle body with the 3 wire tps is much shorter allowing for that big black tmic that nobody can fit under a usdm hood without beating the firewall in.

Just us a usdm 90-94 throttle body and tps. Flip it upside to orient the throttle linkage properly and cut out a 1/4 aluminum spacer and grab a couple new throttle body gaskets.

I'm confused as to what's going on in this thread. I have 3 ej20g manifolds - legacy, wrx and 5th injector type RA. All have the same throttle body as my ej22t.
The ej20g forester engine is an ej20k (somewhat detuned from wrx and sti spec) in most regards except for name. So it's not appropriate to compare it to a HLA based 89-95/96 ej20g series.

Well, there you have it. Just use the TPS/Throttle Body from the EJ20G.

So my newest dilemma! Barcode on the cover starts off ej20gdx1ny and with what I've already researched, this is a forester motor and actually a 20k am I right? Now where does this put me?

If its from a Forester, its a "late" EJ20G and you need to follow all the stuff about the EJ20K TPS everyone was just going off about that they just agreed wasn't necessary ;)
