turbo swap

Post by SubyFusion »

So I have a few questions, I am in the process of doing an engine swap from a 22 to a 22t and while the engine is out I would like to replace anything that should be replaced before the engine is in the car, I don't want to deal with any leaks.

the list so far is

Seals/Gaskets:
Camshaft
Valve cover
Oil pan
Water pump
Oil pump
Intake
Exhaust

Parts:
Oil pump
Water Pump
Timing belt
Thermostat

If there is anything else you guys can think of that I should replace I would appreciate it.

Thanks

definitely the valve cover gaskets. and i would take a peak at the head gasket as well. purge control valve, crankcase vent. it might be more cost effective to just buy a master gasket kit. i thought i found one for 22t, but it turns out it was for a 22e and they thought i wouldnt notice haha the lack of turbo gaskets kind of gave it away haha

Oh ya I forgot valve cover gaskets lol! I want to go OEM on pretty much everything I can. Do you know of any good priced online retailers for OEM parts? Does someone sell a kit with a water pump and all the idler pulleys? Is it necessary to replace the oil pump? Sorry for all the questions I just want to get this right! Thanks for the help!

HI,
Call this guy for parts - best prices I've found:

check out Import Experts on Ebay for T-belt and WP kits. They have good prices, but better quality that the low priced stuff.

I wouldn't replace the oil pump. Just get the O-ring that goes on the inside (against the block) and tighten the big phillips head screws on it. Here's a good LINKto the job.

Do NOT forget to reseal or replace the rear Separator Plate. It's almost always a leaker.

I think most of the stuff has been covered. As Todd mentioned, I'd recommend replacing the rear oil separator plate if it's a plastic one with a newer one that is metal.

There are two front cam shaft seals and some O-rings for the passenger side oil & coolant feed. I'd also do the front crank seal and the rear crank seal. The rear crank seal can be kind of a bitch to replace and needs to be installed exactly how the oil one is installed. You can install it too far in and then it will leak.

I'd also replace the coolant temp sensor.

You can also try www.subarugenuineparts.com for Subaru parts.
