Replacement for 807615292: Gates 20521

Post by RoughDiamond »

To my dismay, the lower heater pipe-to-water pump hose (the short, S-curve one) is unavailable from Subaru anymore (like, "Part Number does not exist" discontinued) and the aftermarket has no listed replacement for this little, but crucial guy for our EJ22T-specific needs.

So, I went searching and put my ASE P2 Certification to work and stumbled up a nearly perfect match to the original.

Subaru 8076-15292 hose is nearly identical to Gates 20521 or Dayco 70619 (some auto parts houses use A70619 as the part number).

I grabbed the Gates as it was local, but the Dayco is the exact same specs.

I installed it on the car this evening and required no trimming and fit NEARLY perfectly. Touch loose on the pipe end versus the water pump end, but the clamp holds it firmly (even the stock butterfly clamp).

Thanks for the research and info, I'd been intending to replace those guys. I replaced the ones relating to the oil cooler with OEM pieces, but not the other two.

No problem, mine was apparently made from dreams and fear (and oil from being soaked due to a leaking oil filler seal) and it's not the easiest thing to change when the exhaust manifold is up there...

The other guy, 807611242 (the upper nipple to water pipe tube) is still available from the dealer.. ~$8 I think (cash wholesale)

UPDATE: After 3K miles, not a drip out of the new hose. Holding up well and is still soft. So the Gates is a viable long term replacement.
