300/350 HP EJ22T?

Post by Ajacklee4 »

How difficult would it be for me to get around 300 whp in a 92 Legacy Turbo? I love this car, and want to bring it to it's potential. What mods can be done to it while sticking to the 2.2 :?:

First, welcome. You should do a lot of searching and reading of stickied threads around here, a lot of the questions you will ask have been answered before.

550cc injectors, TD05-16g or VF39 turbo, turbo back exhaust, RobTune, JECS MAF, top mount intercooler. That'll get you as close to 300whp as you can possibly get without spending a ton of money on engine/standalone ECU/fueling/turbo. You'll probably be a bit faster than a Cobb Stage 2 WRX after all that.

300/350 HP EJ22T?

Heads are going to be a large issue. I have all of those mods and am around 230whp because the heads can't flow enough to get to 300. But the tq is about 260.
Yes I have too many Subarus
No you can't have one

I'm sure I can find a way to get them to flow more.

Good luck with that. The ej22t has been around for 26 years. There isn't much that hasn't been tried with them.

Stock long block with standalone ECU, fuel system, turbo and TMIC upgrade at 18-20 psi on E85 made 330tq/275hp.

The heads don't like to make hp, just torque....which is OK (torque is really what you want). But the transmission does not like that much torque that quick. Swap heads to DOHC and you can remedy this a bit.

I'm at 255 hp & 306 ft-lbs at the wheels with my setup. Getting 300 WHP is really a pure academic exercise (i.e. I just want to say I have 300 whp)....as mentioned above you want torque.

You can read over my build thread to see what all I've done to get to that point.

I know the thread has sort of died... But is there and other ideas? What model car would I be looking at to get a 5 or 6 speed MANUAL trans that could handle 350+ HP? Where do I look to find the mods listed by you guys?

Any WRX trans will take 250-275 TQ (sometimes more depending on mods like brace plates and harder gears or cryo treating. Have seen WRX trans take up to 325TQ, someone on here may have seen higher). STi 6-speed (any year 6-speed...2000-present JDM STi and 2004-present USDM STi) have been known to handle 625 TQ give or take.

If I were you I would do some reading on transmissions over on NASIOC. There is a wealth of information over there. Theres info on what year 6-speeds have what gear ratios, different final drives, DCCD or non-DCCD, Open or LS front diff, axle stub type (innie or outtie). Youve got some reading ahead of you.
