Engine Overhaul Suggestion?

Post by coreytehlazy »

So I recently bought an N/A 93 Legacy wagon that is leaking oil like crazy. I've got the classic separator leak and it's to the point where it looks like I'm overheating from all the oil leaking on the exhaust. I'm sure there are some other seals that needs replacing as well. Since I will be yanking this engine out anyway.. I want to reseal everything I can and take a look at the heads. I have priced out a "kit" from rockauto for $222. I guess my question is there any kits out there you have used that are reliable and budget friendly?

Here's my list
VICTOR REINZ JV1666
(Camshaft x2,Timing Cover)-5.53

VICTOR REINZ JV1666
(Rear Crankshaft)-4.21

(Head Gasket)-100?

VICTOR REINZ OS32153
(Oil Pan)-2.97

NATIONAL 710236
(Oil Pump)-4.86

VICTOR REINZ JV1127
(Timing Cover)-27.79

VICTOR REINZ 67209
(Timing Cover Seal)-1.58

VICTOR REINZ VS50149
(Valve Cover)-23.79

SUBARU 11831AA210
(Oil Separator)-36.52
SUBARU 800406140
(OS Bolt x5)-2.40
SUBARU 800406150
(OS Bolt x1)-0.48

SUBARU 806786040
(Rear Main Seal)-11.93

Total-222.06

I've used s couple eBay special kits in the past, they work, but there cheap so I can't say they'll work for a long time. If I wanted to not worry about future problems, I've gone OEM, but on the cheaper fixes, or the POS cars, cheap as I could find.

Welcome to the BBS.

I wouldn't recommend replacing the head gasket unless you have a specific issue you know of. How many miles are on the motor?

I'd do a compression check on the motor before you pull it and if the values are good I would just stick with seals and gaskets to fix the oil leaks.

I will do that. What the rule of thumb with the values?
