RIP EJ20G

Post by JimBos Legacy »

Started her up after school, notched she was bogging down a bit, soon after I was turning onto the road, noticed some knocking at half throttle, next thing I know the engine stalled and the tires locked up and I came to a skidding stop.

Once I got towed home by a friend, I took off the timing belt cove to see if it had been shredded (suspecting this as the first thing) noticed that the crank was seized up and wasn’t budging. The timing belt is completely intact and the cam pulleys are completely fine.

Don’t really know what happened but the car doesn’t even try to start. I’m guessing maybe a spun bearing, but I don’t really know what caused the engine to seized while running so abruptly. I plan on taking her apart next week to see if I can find the culprit. Still a major bummer :(

Any advice or help would be greatly appreciate, thanks guys

Sounds like you spun a bearing, causing the rotating assembly to seize.

If you had been on the highway the oil pressure likely would have been high enough that you wouldn't have noticed until you pulled off and came to a stop (Ask me how I know...) but since you were at low speed, the rotational inertia of the engine wasn't enough to keep it spinning, lurching you to a stop.

That’s what I was thinking, sad to hear it. Time to start rebuilding her

That's a bummer :(

I'd like to see pictures of the disassembly if you don't mind sharing on the BBS.

Forsure, currently deciding between buying another 20g or buying a 22t and swapping my heads
