Here is an email (edited) showing that even the WRX model ALK for 2001 and later will work, you will just have extra parts. The WRX part is very cheap sometimes.

Why not buy one for an RS or something. It's the same part.......

The new WRX 2002 has a different part number compared to the older ones......

You didnt understand my point. The WRX is VERY popular, so many times the ALK is on sale for them. You could get the WRX ALK for a low price new then use it on your legacy.
