Outback strut lift

Post by SWRT »

Is this the best option for a small lift?
I've heard to use the Outback struts and
rear trailing arms, but is this the struts
from a Legacy Outback or an Impreza
Outback Sport? I'm planning to do this
stuff on a 92-94 Legacy wagon by the
way.

Good question.

My 97 Outback has been lowered, and I've got a full set of stock struts, but I have never definitively seen the difference between the suspensions.

The main difference is probably the location of the lower spring perch on the strut. The strut may also have a longer strut body as well.

DLC: Any chance you want to part with the stock struts
or are you keeping them around just in case you
decide to go back?

That would be awesome! I'm not sure if I want to go
with the Forester stuff or not since it's probably a bit
more expensive and they're about the same amount
of lift. They charge more for SUV struts around here.

Legacy777: As in the spring perch sits a bit higher
off of the hub? (more of an angle maybe?) Cause
I know my stock Legacy perch sits really close the
05 WRX rims I have on there.

This thread covers most of your questions. There are side-by-side comparisons on the last few posts.

Thanks beatersubi

I don't know if it would make sense to ship these from UT to FL. You can probably find a set much, much closer to you.

beatersubi: Yep, that helps a lot. Thanks man :D

DLC: Yeah, I'll give that shot. I haven't seen
an Outback in the junk yard for over a year now
though. Stupid FL and their anti-Subaru outlook.

Dang, that'd be cool. Did you end up using any of
the spacers or the trailing arms?

What I was referring to is where the perch is welded to the strut body. If the perch is raised slightly on the strut body, that will raise the vehicle height.
