Cut Bump Stops or not?

Post by georryan »

I am replacing my AGX struts (sold them to my brother) with a set of Koni inserts on 2.5RS struts out of a GC8. I'm keeping my prodrive p1 springs. I figured it was a good time to replace my rear bump stops since I knew they needed some replacement. The p1 springs gave me about an inch drop and I was wondering what the thought was on cutting the bump stops: good idea or bad idea? Has anyone done it? What do you think? I've been running with stock bump stops for several years now, and I don't think its been too bad, but figured I'd ask. I have been scowering around and haven't really been able to come up with a strong decision on what to do.

I'm actually quite curious how the konis will compare to the agx struts as well, I'll let you know when I have driven around on them for a while. Oh, and I have a whiteline anti roll/bump steer adjustment kit ready to go in as well. I'm not sure it will make much difference as my car isn't slammed, but I hear any amount of lowering can be helped with this kit.

The bump stops are meant to limit the compression travel to an acceptable bottom level. If you cut them, you are monkeying with alignment when they go below bottom, as well as spring compression and shock travel. I say keep them stock.

Yeah, just keep the bump stops as they are.

I'd cut them. Most lowering springs these days come with shorter stops or will say to cut them in the directions. Otherwise you are hitting them all the time which will degrade your ride and handling.

I always cut them when using lowering springs.
