struts 90 legacy wagon

Post by boosted_is_better »

I have a question that I can't seem to find the answer to. I have a 90 legacy awd wagon. I need new struts. I found some new struts for the 95-98 legacy. Will they work?

Sorry for not knowing much. It says I need front and rear spring perches. Is that something I would take off my current strut/spring setup and put on the new struts? Or do I need to buy these? The struts I'm looking at are just the struts, no springs. I will be using the springs off my current strut/spring setup that is on the car now.

Thing is, what year springs you got? May not fit the struts themselves

If you reuse your springs and perches/tophats, with the newer struts you should be in business.

I am looking at doing the same job to my 1990 L wagon. I KNOW the struts are toast but was wondering if I should also put new springs in? The struts are prolly original. I saw great photo post that documented the strut replacement. But, the poster in that thread, Josh?, also put Imprezza springs in and had to replace the perches. Are there spring upgrades that I should consider? I got a quote on the KYB struts at ~$75 each at a local parts store. I'm not wanting to turn this into a race car but if I can put in better than stock parts while I'm there I want to do that.
Thanx in advance.

Mike,

Unless you want the car lowered, the original springs should be fine.

Thanx, is there an easy way to tell if the springs are worn out? Or, is this not usually the case?

I don't think you can tell with the springs off the car. Well, if you had a spring "dyno" you could of course. ;)

Personally I don't think worn out springs are as big of a concern compared to worn out/blown struts.

Springs don't really "wear out". They can sag over time, but they are designed to be cycled almost to infinite cycles.

02-07 wrx struts will bolt right up except the wrx rear top hats unless maybe they came from a wagon but the only thing you need is wrx front spring perches and it all works. I have kyb 04wrx struts with Megan racing lowering springs on my 1990 legacy wagon
