lower strut bolts
so right now im trying to change the struts im my 94 wagon, and the lower strut bolts in the rear just wont budge loose. so I'm thinking to just cut them off, can i do that? are those regular bolts or are they special? any help would be appreciated
1994 Legacy wagon, FWD, non-turbo, 175,000 miles, 5 speed, and still gets 30 mpg IN TOWN!!
Re: lower strut bolts
I use a breaker bar with a 3 foot pipe to break them loose, and wd-40.

HI,
Did you get the nut off/loose @ all? I've fought those bolts too, but eventually got 'em off. They may be hard to find replacements unless you have a good 'fastener' or other bolt source locally. People use PB blaster/WD40 and the newest thing I read about - ATF+Acetone:

PB Blaster=ok. A 50/50 mix of acetone & ATF=Best Ever! Here's the cold, hard facts from the April/May 2007 edition of Machinist's Workshop. They did a test of penetrating oils where they measured the force required to loosen rusty test devices. Buy the issue if you want to see how they did the test. The results reported were interesting. The lower the number of pounds the better.
Penetrating oil . Average load .. Price per fluid ounce
None ................. 516 pounds .
WD-40 .............. 238 pounds .. $0.25
PB Blaster ......... 214 pounds .. $0.35
Liquid Wrench ... 127 pounds .. $0.21
Kano Kroil ........ 106 pounds .. $0.75
ATF-Acetone mix.. 53 pounds .. $0.10

Re: lower strut bolts
I use the atf-acetone too, heat first then spray and while its still hot 36" breaker bar 1/2" drive.
Even the 1/2" impact gun cannot get those off if they are rusty.
