Need some help/info collecting suspension measurments

Post by algershick »

Hello, this is sort of a weird first post but I'm looking for some help from you guys. I've lurked here for quite some time gathering information for my project. Let me give you some background.

I'm working on a 1963 Corvair and am planning a Subaru EJ motor swap to replace the factory air cooled 6 cyl boxer. The Corvair is a rear engine vehicle, and I wish to maintain this configuration to retain use of my rear seats. I have been trying to figure out the best way to re-work the suspension because I need to eliminate the stock swing arm rear in order to make it all work. I've settled on grafting the rear Subaru framerails to maintain all factory suspension mounting points.

Fast forward, the suspension has been totally removed. I've had a catastrophic fire and began cutting the car in half before I took measurements and angles of suspension components so I can mock it up in my Corvair. Silly, right?

What I'm looking for are stock measurements with stockist wheels/tires from the ground to the framerail where the rear subframe mounts. Is there an ideal angle for the lateral links and trailing arms? My doner is a 94 GT if that makes a difference.

I really appreciate it. My end goal here is to have a functional Subaru AWD/drivetrain/suspension on this little Corvair. I've already cut it up, just have to weld it together now. ;)

Mods, this request may have been better suited for the suspension forum.

I moved your post to the suspension forum and changed the topic to better describe what you're looking for.

Hopefully someone can get you this information.

Thanks Josh, I appreciate it. I'm hoping someone chimes in as well, I'm ready to start welding/cutting/bending tubing and sheetmetal.

Had I not turned the Legacy into a raging inferno, I would have bolted it all back up to get measurements myself.

I've found some Impreza photos and it appears that the lateral links should be parallel with the ground. Can anybody confirm this?

The lateral links should be close to parallel with the ground. Here are some pictures of my car and the lateral links. However these are after I lowered the car about an inch in the rear.
