What transmission is this? (with number)

Post by aaronllewellyn »

1990 legacy Ls AWD 4EAT auto (SS motor and many swapped 91 parts)

The number on mine is:
TZ102ZJ1AA -4R

the normal 91 legacy SS transmission number seems to be
TZ102ZA2AA-MH

What's in my car>? I cant find it anywhere on lookups, and it need to be replaced.

Using this decoder,

I'd say the

TZ102ZJ1AA-4R is from a 91 turbo (Just to note the 1 should indicate 1990, but since there isn't a 1990 MY turbo Legacy, the trans & car was likely made in 1990, but the car was a 1991 MY)

TZ102ZA2AA-MH is from a 91 non-turbo

Do you know there are five in it because that's how many there was when you rebuilt it or are you going off the manual?

Based on what I see in the parts manual it list five plates so where are you looking that says four?

Go to page 254 of 1,265 that shows the diagram for the clutch plates. Page 253 item 1 & 2 show a quantity of five.
