93 na to 5spd swap

Post by bcmaxx »

Im well underway swappin in a 5spd jdm wrx trans...ive got everything but a starter. What works? Any 5 spd starter? Using a 02 wrx flywheel. And also. I never thought of speedo cable. Will my new auto cable work?

What year is the trans from?

I used my auto cable. Depending on the year you may need to remove the speed sensor if it has one and get the MT speedo cable base piece so you can use the cable speedo.

Sensor removed. Auto speedo mechanical adapter screwed right in its place. Just hoping cable length isnt an issue. Its about 10" further back than auto speedo hole location. Tranny is a 96 jdm wrx close ratio

You probably will need the MT speedo cable adapter. It's p/n: 37410AA061

Kimo has a picture of it in his build thread.

Any 5mt starter should work for your trans.

Auto cable just reached with the auto adapter. 06 sti starter is a go. Pedal swap was an ordeal with the automatic push button heater box.. a harness sheethed in thick nylon conduit placed where 5sp pedals bolt up made that fun.. i followed a write up and built a patch harness from the neutral and reverse switch on the 5 spd tranny to the auto wiring. But im told now the ecu will see neutral every shift and really mess with things. Looking for proper neutral input. My friend suggested wiring direct to ecu wiring . Thoughts?

Have you read over my AWD & 5spd swap to know how to deal with the electrical/wiring?

It's all there and will tell you how to deal with the neutral switch and other items.

if you made the adapter to plug in the tranny, then you should be good. i did the same thing to my wagon and the only other electrical thing i did was snip the wire that goes to the cluster gear indicator.
