I am just researching more options for 4EAT swaps into my 93 SS. Currently the stock 4EAT works fine after swapping in an NA TCU, but since the 4EAT has about 180k I am looking for swap info in case I have to replace it.
I saw a post where bcmmaxx swapped in a 97 OB 4EAT.
What later (phase II) transmissions can I swap in, and what does it entail? I would imagine I would need to replace the wiring and TCU at the very least?
Has anyone swapped in an 02/03 WRX 4EAT? If so how did you go about it?
Another option I am exploring is swapping in a JDM VTD transmission from an EJ20g but I am having a hard time locating the the matching TCU to go with it.
Thanks!

Re: Phase II 4eat swaps?
Phase 2 started in 99. I've read about several people running 2nd gen Legacy/phase 1 transmissions (95-98) in our cars.

Re: Phase II 4eat swaps?
Ah, Ok. I assumed that phase II transmissions were in cars with phase II engines.
So are the 2nd gen phase I transmissions plug and play? Any idea what is involved to swap one in?
I'm still hoping to find a VTD JDM TCU or find out any info about swapping in a phase II transmission.
I just wish my wife would let me swap in a 5MT. It woud be a lot easier to source a tranny.

Re: Phase II 4eat swaps?
Getting stale and I think I answered this elsewhere, so ignore if ' a repeat'.
Tangent: The '99 Legacy OB/GT was a weird one w/a Phase 2 shortblock,Phase 1 DOHC heads and electronics and a Phase 2 4EAT. FWIW, a '95-'98 EJ22e/EJ25D will bolt up and work fine, but not the Phase 1 4EAT.
Many (on the USMB) have told of using the '90-'98 4EAT interchangeably - as long as it's w/another '90-'98. There are differences in final drive ratios, rear diff flange bolt pattern, drive line lengths, etc., depending on years and engines.

True. '99 was both engines and trans.I assumed that phase II transmissions were in cars with phase II engines.
