My legacy rolled!

Post by Goddoll »

So, I was going down the street thinking "this old 94 will make it to 300k easy", and for absolutely no good reason, the thing threw a tantrum, and kicked left into a ditch, then rolled over.
I didn't get much of a chance to look at the damage, but it started, and no oil in the air, so I'm hoping it will still run.
Anyway, if it doesn't...

Imma need a new Subaru. There's a 2003 outback L.L Bean with a bad manual in my area, in my price range.

How hard would it be to swap out the automatic transmission in the 94?

Edit: turns out that the outback is an automatic as well.

Are you wanting to swap the automatic transmission into a manual transmission car?

Due to the additional electronics and wiring it's going to be a lot more difficult, if not cost prohibitive especially since the model difference is substantial.

Its actually automatic in both. Does that make a difference?

So you're wanting to take the automatic from your 94 and put it into the 03?

If so, there a difference in transmissions. The 94 is a phase 1 4EAT while the 03 is a phase 2. The final gear ratio is the different. The 94 would have a final drive ratio of 3.90 and the 03 Outback, according to this site has a 4.44 final drive ratio.

Short answer, no you can't swap them.

You actually could swap them as long as you also swap the differential from your 94 into the outback
