Brembos Issues. Brembo guys Chime in please.

Post by Florin1 »

Came across some Brembos for front and rear off a 05+. Guy included lines, knuckles, disks and front struts. I purchased them. Here is where i'm at. I got the rears done. Problem is it seems like my axles dont come trough the rotor far enough in the rear. I can get the 32mm nut on the axle and probably bite about 3 threads, but im afraid under a hard launch it might strip or brake the tip of the axle. Are there other axles that have a longer tip?
For the front: Got the old knuckle off (abs sensors suck) and the new one mounted. Problem: I notice the ABS sensor has a different location on the new knuckle. Also, the sti knuckle doesnt have the "teeth" for the abs sensor. I said, oh well, no abs. Once i screwed down the 32mm nut, the axle wasnt able to rotate... I read trough jamal's thread and it doesnt say anything about me running into these issues... Any help?

in the rear to use sti hubs, you need to use sti axles, which means you need a sti R180 rear diff.

ouch. That sucks. Ok i appreciate you answering. I've had a hell of a time finding info. I think im just gonna go pull my hubs out and replace backing plates. I shouldn't need new wheel bearings should i? They're like $30 each at Auto Zone.

Bearings and seals should be replaced if you remove them.

Kartboy makes an adapter so you can use the rear Brembos with regular knuckles. You'd need to have the shoes re-lined with thicker material for your parking brake to work, but it would be cheaper than a full rear swap.

Yeah so I pulled hubs tonight, and the backing plates are not interchangeble! DANG!! Back to square one. I'm so annoyed!!
Didn't someone on here just buy some used kartboy adabters and accidently got some brembo adapters with it? I need to talk to that person. Who was it, does anyone know?

Get the kartboy adapter plate. That's really your best bet.

I couldn't tell you about the backing plates. I recall a thread on NASIOC where Jamal gave all the ins, outs, and what-have-yous on the topic.

The Kartboy adapters are nice since it saves you money on bearings and seals. Unless you already have it all apart.

When I did my R180 swap, I thought about going the other way with things on the STi knuckles. SVX backing plates and brakes with redrilled SVX rotors to run normal brakes to fit under smaller wheels. A friend did this so he could use 15" wheels in the winter.

What about having an axle shop make you custom axles with your inner joint and shaft and the sti outer joint? you might run into problems with the track width being smaller on the legacy and trying to fit sti struts. You will probably need camber bolts.

I put my old stuff back on, and redrilled my rotors for 5x100. Now waiting on a friend to make me some adapters for rear calipers.

The fronts bolt on fine, it's always the rear that's the problem. You'll need a 17x7.5 or larger rim to fit though.
