Rear calipers

Post by ej22tVermont »

Anybody know of a cheaper alternative to the Dealers asking price of $300 for a single rear caliper? Its a 94 SS, and I know there must be a cheaper alternative, even if I have to replace both at once. Or, if anybody has a good one they could part with let me know! Winter is here in VT, and a dragging rear brake is causing me to get a bit squirrelly going straight!

Seems like you might be able to score remanufactured ones from the auto-part chain stores.

If no luck on that, then post a WTB ad in the classifieds.

The turbo legacy calipers are slightly wider to accept the rear vented rotor. As mentioned I'd suggest the reman'd caliper or a used one. Your other option would be to replace the calipers and rotors with one from a non-turbo car. The non-turbo car has a solid (non-vented) rear rotor.

No luck on anything remanned around these parts, Subaru claims to have 3 left in the country, and I refuse to downgrade. However I did regrease the piss out of the sliders, and have gone over 100 miles with no issues so far. If it lasts through our hard VT winter then I can deal with the higher prices in the spring. I was just unsure as if any newer models shared similar setups, since there are numerous wrecked Subaru's every year around these parts.

if you don't want to down grade then that means up grade :D Go over to NASIOC and try to find some WRX 2- pot rear calipers and rotors, if you are lucky u should be able to find someone trying to get rid of them for pretty cheap. FYI you will need to get an adapter bracket to make them fit I believe. Just sayin it's an option and a route that I plan on going eventually.

Just an FYI if you do upgrade to the 2-pot calipers they will not fit under the stock 15" wheels.
