Wheel spacers, safe?

Post by 93subis »

Hey i have a 93 that i am turning into a road/ rally car and will probably go mudding/ off-roading with on occasions and i want the wheels to stance out a little wider. i was wondering if it is safe to run a subie off road with wheel spacers all the way around and if it is very safe how big of a spacer could i go with, thanks!

The type with extended wheel studs should be fine as long as they are H&R or something high quality with ARP studs. Don't use the bolt-on type that use the stock wheel studs and have studs pressed into them.

Personally I wouldnt recommend it or run them on my own car, but I have heard that they are used sometimes on off road race trucks. Nothing beats a wheel with a proper offset. Using spacers means you just have one more thing that could go wrong.

I'm probably going to throw a set of 5mm spacers all around on my 93. They just fit in between the wheel and hub, so there is no need for new studs, as I've heard it is a bitch to fit those, but I could be wrong.
