Kartboy VS. KNS rear brake adapters

Post by Tommio RS »

OK good people i come today with a sorta simple question.

Im wanting to convert my 93 SS to have the 4/2pot brakes from 06-07 wrx's and i want to know what brake adapters to buy.

From what i have read on the forums here that Kartboy is a hit an miss.
I see people saying you need to mod your rear brakes a bit to make them work
Then some just state that they "go" on?

Which leads me to the KNS rear brake adapters.
I see nothing on them BUT they are NOT Kartboy. So will they maybe fit better????

Dont get me wrong here.
I just dont want to spend the money and get burnt.....

Im really not opposed to changing the backing plates in the rear for the PERFECT fitment BUT would like this job to go smoother. Hinting on the rear brake adapters.

I have replaced countless sets of brake parts and never have i seen a fitment issue from any aftermarket parts really.

Only time parts dont fit is from a miss order really.

And really i just want a simple brake job to be simple brake job.

Thanks

Tom

All I had to do to fit the kartboy's was enlarge the bolt holes on the car side. 5 mins with a drill per side. I guess if I had paid retail I would have been a little more bugged, but I didn't so I wasn't.

I emailed kartboy, and they said on the earlier legacy's the bolt hole spacing wasn't exactly consistent, unlike the later models. If that's really true, then I don't see how any bracket MFR would be able to make an exact fit for the old stuff.

Side note: I lost one of the brackets during a move, and offered to buy just one from Kartboy, but they refused my money and sent the piece along with stickers and candy lol.

Well mike-tracy, you basically summed up the issue for me!

If all you need to be is "drill out" the factory mounting holes in the backing plate thats NOT that bad at all.

Well time to go buy some Kartboy adapters!

Thank you!

I have adapters I made for $100 shipped no drilling required. I've been running them for a few years now with out problems.

Haven't test fit my Brembos with rotors yet, but should work with Brembos also.

I will be needing a set of adapters eventually once I start work on the 4/2 pot conversion.

Martimus, what material is your adapter made out of?

Josh,

They're made out of mild steel, and I went with high grade bolts for added peace of mind.

Let me know when you want a set.

Ok, thanks for the heads up. It'll probably be around Fall time or so until I have some time. I got so much going on and so much work travel going on during the summer that there's been very little time for the cars.
