gouged rotor?
I just picked up a 93 legacy and it makes a weird noise while driving. The previous owner thought it was a wheel bearing. The wheel bearings are fine, but the rotor is gouged really bad and the caliper bracket has crazy wear on it. The outer pad is like new and the inner pad is almost metal. I went to change the rotor but got the wrong size. I went ahead an put new pads anyway. When I was putting everything back together I couldn't see where any rubbing could have occurred. Has anyone ever had this happen to their brakes, or any tips on making it better?

Re: gouged rotor?
How was the sliders? It common for those to be sticky or frozen.

^^ That's my vote too. Same thing happened on my outback when I got it. One pad almost new, the other, down to bare backing metal.

I figured out what gouged the rotor; the last person to do the brakes either lost washers or used the wrong bolts in the caliper. What are the sliders? Got brakes changed and it still makes an unruly amount of noise/vibration. Changing the wheel bearings today. Hope that helps.

Re: gouged rotor?
Bottom one is the slider. it gets siezed due to rust causing severe pad wear imbalance.

Re: gouged rotor?
That's what I thought you were talking about. It moves freely. I just did the wheel bearing and that's what was causing the noise and vibration. Next is rotors and pads. Thanks guys!
