Can my wagon tow a suzuki?

Post by 93wagonship »

Hi guys,

My Legacy wagon 1993 2.2 just turned 200.000 km: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FxNW-1h90vM

What about towing capacity? Can i tow my Suzuki Samurai (900 kg) behind it? (using only the Legacy brakes)

My tow hitch was made pretty strong, so no concern in there. Anyone has experience towing?

Thanks!

The owner's manual does make a statement about towing. If you don't have yours any more you can you can d/l this one and look through it.

I towed a subaru both on a dolly and with a chain (and my friend in the rear car) with my 96L, same size engine and brakes as yours. The engine was more than up to it, but the auto tranny was not happy and started to overheat. With the dolly my front brakes heated up too and the pedal was soft after a few small hills. I wouldn't recommend it except for short distances in an emergency.

Mine is a 5spd manual 2.2 with Low Range, but brakes will suffer as I thought. Maybe with a braked trailer it's feasible.
thanks for the input mate.

Thanks for the link. Manual says up to 500 kg withouth brakes and 1200 kg for braked trailers. Had missed that.

cheers
