How big can I go?

Post by FromTheNorth »

I tried searching and really didn't come up with a real answer, so I figured I'd just ask you guys. I have a 93 turbo' Wagon and in really looking for some new tires an rims for it. I just wanted to know what kinda rims and tire sizes I could fit stock, and what kind of suspension mods I would have to make in order to fit something like 17x8s. I know I'll have to roll the fenders but that's not a problem. I also want to keep it as low as possible

Pay attention to offset, I have oem 17" jdm wrx wheels on my car (17x7.5 +53 225/45) and they barely rub the rear coilovers due to having to camber the wheels a bit to avoid kissing the fender. I guess all I'm saying is that 17x8 might be a bit trickier but it's definitely possible and people have done it successfully! I know Robertpaige on here was running 17x9 and his car was ridiculously low.

You're pretty much limited to using coilovers if you want wider wheels. Some people rub with 16x7's. I don't, but my struts came from a Subaru that had that width stock.

Yeah I've seen his car and really like the look of it. I'm also going for the look of GClarks purplish touring Wagon but I can't find anything in his build that says anything about suspension mods other than coilovers. If other people rub on smaller tires like 16x7's, how is he not rubbing on huge tires?

I think i'm on 17x7.5 and it rubs a bit in the back on turns IF there's people sitting back there. But yeah, not necessarily stock suspension. KYBs with H&R sport springs.

Here is a great listing of suspension/wheel/tire set-ups in this thread. I have referred to it many times:
