Morons. Sure, that part would be hidden from cursory view, but they sure as hell must have noticed they hit something hard enough that they should take a look. I'd be surprised if they couldn't feel it when driving either. Amazing the bead still sealed.
Midnight in a Perfect World on Amazon or order anywhere. The first book in a quartet chronicling the rise of a man from angry criminal to philanthropist. Midnight... is a distopic noirish novel featuring 'Duchess', a modified 1990 Subaru Legacy wagon.

You'd think the car would ride a little funny.

A girl who parked next to me had that on the outside of her wheel. I let her know and she said it's been like that for months. Yikes, I'll make sure I stay far from her on the highway.

I felt it was a safety hazard, so failure it is.

Good for you. Definately a safety issue. I'm surprised it held air. Definately not something you want on the highway. Worst case. Say it was "obviously damaged"

Wow! Makes me miss my days in the shop... When a customer brought a '91 Legacy wagon into the shop for an oil change and no oil came out when the drainplug was removed...needless to say, the resulting spun bearing was how I got that (MY) wagon!
"All four wheels spin? Huh, that's AWD..."

Its on the side of the wheel that you never see. And if the driver was inebriated enough, they might not have noticed.
