'93 winestone sports sedan

Post by L-Tuned BD »

This is my fourth Subaru Legacy total and 2nd 1st gen. My '91 LSi sedan bit the dust after the flex plate broke on the highway. It wasn't worth saving as the engine had very low compression on the 3rd cylinder & the tranny binded a hair during tight corners. I sold my very highly modified '95 Legacy L sedan in favor of a 350Z track. Ended up selling the Z, purchasing this SS, and traveled Thailand for a month!

This thing was pretty ugly when I first got it but I could tell it was a champ. I've put in a lot of work to bring it up to spec. More updates to come.

Meguiars PlastiX ftw

replaced with a gorgeous matching winestone fender (need new pics)
Image

Full tune-up
Image

The seats were pure shit.
Image

Cleaned the hell out of the carpets. Should take some pics post cleansing.
Image

More pics necessary but got a beautiful set of WRX fronts for $120.
Image

Polished the hell out of the exhaust, again took a pre-pic, now its gorgeous
Image

Pre full exterior detail. Nasty, unattended winestone. Took off the spoiler as it was down to bare white fiberglass. This + the roof will be making a visit to Maaco this winter.
Image

Post. Meguiars clay bar kit, Meg's paint cleaner, polish, and carnuaba wax. Shines real nice now, but made my arm sore in the process lol.
Image
Took off the nasty pin stripping too.

Lets see got some DBA 4000 slotted F rotors, ebc green stuff pads, JDM side skirts 8) Prodrive plate frames, STi mats, front badge for the grill and a bit more since these pics. Just got back from Thailand so more will come in the next few months!

Heat gun/hair dryer and a razor blade usually do the trick. Go over it REALLY well with some Goo-gone right after.

^^ This. Followed by Meguiars paint cleaner & Meguiars NXT tech wax. Worked great, can't tell it was ever there.

Thanks for the positive feedback everyone! I have been spending a lot of time on here & RS Liberty club.

Here is a few of my past Legacy's I've owned over the years

Still own this '95 L wagon. It sits on GT-B bilsteins. Has a few other goodies too. Just got back from theft recovery.
Image

My LSi's body was real minty. Nice ruby mica paint too. The interior was in great niche too. Mechanically & @ 220K it was beat and on its last draw

'95 L. Purchased completely stock, owned for over four years and put 75K+ miles during my ownership.

Thanks. The JDM bumper, painted, was more than the purchase price of my SS!

Here's my SS at McPhillips beach, close to Pacific City, OR last weekend. New corner light will be here any day!

I just got majorly owned by my turbo.
Noticed coolant dripping off what I initially thought was the coolant hose from the water pump.

Nope! It was the water pump gasket. Now I'm saving up to do the water pump, timing belt, timing belt tensioner, thermostat, re-seal the oil pump, cam seals, valve cover gaskets, re-seal the power steering pump and whatever the hell else I tear into. I guess this means I'm in it for the long haul with this badboy. Oh well - its worth it I love this car!

Same happened to me when I bought my car. Definitely work replacing all the parts anyways.

Order the waterpump, and the 2 hoses that attach to the wp from the dealer, and get a timing belt kit like this one it has a good belt. At the same time I also replaced the oil pump, but reallistically all I need was one of the o rings. Regardless $100 for the wp, $100 for the oil pump, $100 for the timing belt kit with idlers, and +$20-50 for other odds and ends and it should be pretty well set.

Thanks Eric! I am also ordering new clamps for the two hoses that attach to the WP. I'll have to wait till I tear into it to see if the timing belt tensioner also needs replacement. They're about $100 from the dealer. I definitely want to just get everything dialed in & replaced all at once - including the cam seals and I will just re seal the oil pump. In the meantime I took my Legacy off insurance and put back my '90 Audi 32v V8 Quattro back on. Its funny, where the Subaru has mean low and mid range torque, the Audi really peaks above 4K PRM & sings to redline.
