Details: Engine runs ok, but at around 2000rpm a got a intermittent clunking sound, different from the valve lifter sound.
Sound kinda like a diesel, and i dont hear it quite as much at any other rpm. Its noisiest when the engine is off load
What do you guys think : is my crank bearing on the go or im i too paranoid

I doubt the water pump would make such a deep clunking noise, but thanks for the cue

Crank on the pulley to be safe. Could be detonation?

Midnight in a Perfect World on Amazon or order anywhere. The first book in a quartet chronicling the rise of a man from angry criminal to philanthropist. Midnight... is a distopic noirish novel featuring 'Duchess', a modified 1990 Subaru Legacy wagon.
I would be awfully surprised to see detonation at 200rpm without any load on the engine. I rebuilt the engine(except bottom end) last year, so i don't think there is any carbon built up in the cylinders. I'll keep looking.........
My guess, wrist pin loose or crank bearing

Check the crankshaft pulley nut. I had a similar noise, it got worse and worse until it almost fell off.. I had to tighten it with a huge extension and the car in 5th gear .
If you have an auto you may have to take the starter out and jam the flywheel to tighten the bolt.
