this is my fault, I decided to put on my Hazard Suit and surf NASIOC and checked out the Legacy Forum

there I saw his's "Kid getting a BC" thing and I told him to come here, not even reading his post that much... ugh

I told him to use search though, and read all the stickies, that's probably what he's doing right now.

Maybe he is better off getting a BJ... then he can get safe, reliable road head and there is plenty of room in the back for other things that may happen....you know..like big speakers and lots of neons, and maybe even a disco ball.

We should pimp his ride.

 I'm so sorry.
Usually, I'll roll out the red carpet, talk nice, and encourage the young'ns. ..not yesterday.
Really, I'm sorry. There's no excuse, is there?
Sure there is, he wanted to defile a Legacy with gauges, neons, and whatnot. It's our (civic)[?] duty to protect and uphold the LEGACY these cars bring with them.
..all the more reason to straighten him out, right?
I really do hope he comes back.. at my young 20 years of age, we need the next gen of kids who're getting Legacies to get in here, so we have a better tally of our brethren.
Seriously, I'm sorry. It was like a bull at one of those mexican gigs --he waved neons, mufflers and guages in front of me, and I charged forward, helpless to the verbal abuse spouting forth.

...Oh, and for Laurel:

since the ej22 is a non interference motor i thought this wasnt an issue.

AFAIK the only problem w/a broken t-belt will be the need for a tow home to fix it.

You should change the belt every 60k on these engines.

Do the water pump at the same time as the belt.

Do alot of things when you change the timing belt.... Thats a totaly different post for that though.

If you come back do a search for how to maintain your car.

Hey... im 16 and i am about to get a legacy turbo wagon soon. Im gonna sell my 2000 accord coupe and just buy one of these. They are cheap, and if you get the right rims and lowering height, they can look pretty sweet. I was hoping to find a silver one, and put some 18" 5 spoke rims, lower it a bit so the rims sit right below the fender and get a nice tb exhaust. I am dissappointed i havnt seen any really clean looking legacys on the board. Although some arnt bad. I HATE RICE!! which includes body kits, neon, altezzas, and loud colors oh and of course cheap looking rims. My taste are more subtle than other teens. I want something unique, and a fast wagon that can smoke a lot of rice burners out there would just be the shit.

Good luck getting 18's that fit. Ride quality will be hell, too, but it probably would look good.

Make sure you dissable the AWD feature of your car. It's off-road capabilities are no longer once you lower that bad boy.

What? Why?

AWD has MANY uses even on pavement. . . . c'mon. EVERY Subaru owner knows this.

Here is a tip to save you from asking a dumb question...the wheels are 5x100 with a +52 offset.

Change your timing belt every 60K weither it needs it or not. Do it yourself, we will help.

If for any reason coolant leaves your cooling system...BURP the system.

If it is AWD...use a flatbed when towing.

Yes all your tires have to be the same size within 1/8 of an inch. (AWD)

No you can't put a turbo on a N/A engine

Don't use Fram oil filters

Don't use synthetic oil if you have high milage

Yes that is transmission fluid in your power steering pump

Yes you can swap your auto (4EAT) for the 5spd manual (5MT)

NO we will not help you pick out neons or an ebay wing

Use NGK V-power copper plugs..period.

If you want to learn about legacys forst hand I gladly invite you to come to my house and help me install my EJ20.

NO MATTER WHAT YOU DO..USE THE SEARCH FEATURE BEFORE POSTING TO MAKE SURE YOUR QUESTION HASN'T BEEN ANSWERED ALREADY.

I know all about AWD on pavement...I do it all the time. Then again I take my car thru some nasty stuff now and then just so she doesn't forget what she is capable of.

If I had lowerd my car I can't tell you how mant times I would have had to call a tow truck...

I'm not saying to not lower your car...do it by all means. It does look tight. Just drive it like a lowrider. Maybe an Airstrut set-up? Fully adjustable and better ride than stock...

But disabling the AWD? That's just silly.

I drove my car (lowered on coilovers) up to the pass at least five times this winter IN SNOW . . . had no problems, save the time I needed help leaving the plowed parking lot. . . stupid plowtruck burms.

yeah, and it's not like you can just put in the fuse and be like "hey, FWD!"

Even with the fuse in on an auto (can you even do that with a 5MT?), power is still split 90/10 as with normal driving, it just doesn't lock the center diff when the fronts slip. So, 10% of power is still going to the rear, the driveshaft is still turning, so it's not like you'd get better mileage or anything. From what I hear, driving around in FWD mode for extended periods of time will mess up the AWD anyway. Disabling AWD in a Subaru is probably the dumbest thing you could ever do. AWD was the main reason I wanted my car. If you don't want or need it, drive an Accord or something.

I have a switch on my dash to turn the AWD on and off. I have heard you can leave the AWD off for extended periods of time with no damage what so ever. I've left mine off for thousands of miles and it still works great.

When the fuse is in I get better gas milage and better pick-up...

Isn't the torque split 50/50 in 1&2 and 90/10 in 3&4? I thought I had read that somewhere.
