Strange exhaust note during deceleration

Ever since I put in my new (used) engine, I've been getting a "blop-bla-blop-blop" type sounds instead of the normal smooth engine sound during decelaration. I've noticed a lot of Jettas and Golfs make the same noise. I never noticed it on my OEM engine though. It sounds like a bunch of small backfires or something. It also only seems to mainly happens between 2,800-1,800 rpm.

I was thinking that maybe it's because of my LW flywheel and that it might not have been doing it right at first with the new motor and actually started after the FW/clutch install but I think I remember it doing it before that but I'm not 100% sure.

Any ideas or comments? Normal, bad ect...? Anyone else have the same symptom?

My EJ22E did that, and both the EJ22T's did/do that.

not sure why the old one didnt do it for you. but all my subies have done that. especially noticable as the exhaust deteriorates or is freed of the muffler.

When my exhaust was muffled, but not catted, it made a very distinct noise when decelerating at around 3000 rpms. A friend, whose 98 2.5RS had one of the sweetest sounding exhausts ever, always commented that he liked it when it happened. I did to.

I know the exhaust starts to blop when the IAC kicks in and the ECU comes out of fuel-cut decel mode and starts feeding the engine fuel for it to idle; at higher rpms, it feeds it just enough to get the engine rotating but slowing down, as it approaches the idle speed, it adds more fuel - hence why the burbling gets closer together.

mine kicks in at about 1500rpms and starts blopping; or if the A/C is on, it'll blop through the entire rpm range when deceling.

I personally like the noise, and being as I lack any semblance of a muffler, running straight pipes, it's very noticeable.

VERY noticeable.

My old engine may have done it slightly as well but with this engine it's really noticeable (loud). My old one would blop a bit but more randomly too, like vrooom, blop-vroom-blop, blop-vroooom. Instead of vrooom- blop, blop, bla-blop, blop, blop, bla-blop ,blop.

I really like the sound too, it sounds like the car is cammed or something. I just thought maybe it was so much more noticeable and consistant on this engine because there was maybe a problem, that's all.

My car has no muffler but still has the cats and when i would leave it in first and get up to 30 mph and let of the gas it would do the same thing and when the motor was cold and i stepped on the gas it made a kind of ping like sound.
