91 Leg turbo Rear diff-lsd?

Post by bmxpunk »

I found a 91 Legacy turbo automatic. I was wondering if the automatics had the rear limited slip diff. Is there any way to tell via vin number or something, since I think the sticker on the rear diff is gone.

I belive all the 91 auto or 5 speed with LSD at the rear. I got mine from 91 turbo auto.
You could easily to check with the silver plate at the diff. will be saying its a LSD with 3.9 or just 3.9.

yes, it should be LSD.

Does it not have the rear cover on? You should be able to tell by looking at the internals.

It has the cover on it, but the sticker is gone. I am thinking of buynig the whole car and parting it out.

The next question is, is it geared the same as my 93 5mt would be?

Well that depends. If your 93 5mt is a turbo then probably yes, unless you did swap or someone else did. If it is a NA then no, it is not the same gearing. (assuming your 93 5mt is a legacy)

ok went back out to look at it. It has the sticker on the diff and it says 3.90. Is this the same as the 93 Legacy SS rear diff with a 5mt? If not, what does is my diff?

So your 93 MT (n/a) is 3.90?

The 93 SS should have a 3.90 final drive ratio.

No See I have a 95 impreza with the entire Legacy Turbo engine -tranny-dirvetrain-brakes swapped into it. All Of my running gear is from the legacy turbo. Thats why I figured If this diff was limited slip, why not throw it in now.
