vrg3 wrote:Well, that signal reversal circuit would be really easy to make. You only need one chip and four passive components:

Get an LM2904 chip. Also get four 100K resistors.

Connect pin 1 to pin 6 through a resistor.
Also connect pin 1 to pin 2.
Connect pin 3 to the ECU's TPS signal wire.
Connect pin 4 to the ECU's MAF sensor ground wire.
Also connect pin 4 to pin 5 through a resistor.
Connect pin 5 through a resistor to the ECU's TPS power supply wire.
Connect pin 6 through a resistor to pin 7 (pin 6 is already also connected through a resistor to pin 1).
Connect pin 7 to the Perfect Power's TPS input.
Connect pin 8 to the ECU's MAF sensor power supply wire.

This should send the "reverse" of the TPS signal to the PP.

If the signal is noisy, you could add a 0.1uF capacitor across pins 4 and 8 (negative side to pin 4 if the cap is polarity-sensitive). This probably won't be necessary though.
Thanks for the info Vikash.

I'll probably just leave it alone. I don't want to provide another way to input noise. I'm going to email pp directly and ask them if this is something they can add as an enhancement.

When I datalog, and look over the numbers in excel, I'll just create a formula to give me the "correct" deflection reading.

Here is a datalog of a 2nd and 3rd gear pull. Right click and save. It must be put in the SMT6 folder to be found.

Tyler, what are you RPM Scale Setting set for? Might be a stupid question, but I just realized mine were set to 2000-6200, when in actuallity I need to set it to 500-6700.

?maybe? the cause of my hiccups. I will test.

Mine is 600-6200rpm

defelction is 10% to 70% (only use up to about 60% right now working on adding boost to get up to 70+ deflection
(remember my deflection comes off of a 3 bar map sensor)

I havent beeen making any changes since I got back from my trip. i am trying to see if the ecu is learning to the pp or trying to go around it.

under what conditions does your car do the bucking doug. my conditions vary. but it is always when: I slam the throttle wide open in a gear higher than 1. I go push the throttle past 50% under 4200 rpm.

above 4200 the thing is a rocket. to bad I dont drive a honda hehehehehe

In general, it happens at low rpms when either floored or soft approach.

I have yet to datalog it when it happens. My laptop is so old I have to get lucky it doesnt crash when I want to datalog.

Its been a while since sema and i sent email after sema that said "hey, I understand you just got back to sema but my car is still running like it did in august any new ideas" actuall sent 1email before 1 while, and 2 after they were at sema.

My boss and I were discussing a quote the other day because we are swamped "its hard enough to get business, why would you ever turn it away?"

BUT deleting my posts, thats crap. To me that says they dont want anyone asking "hard" questions about their product and they would rather cover up problems than try to learn something and have an explanation when this happens to someone esle. becasue seriously this isnt good, I am getting DANgerous lean spots. Again if I hadn't been promised the "snake oil cure all" "this is the answer to all subaru swaps so you never have to do wiring again." If i would have known this now, i would have done the wiring. thats what I get for researching and for not being patient and just doing the wiring.

Doug by the way i cant seem to view your data logs. i tried to save them to the smt6 folder.

can you view your data logs when not hooked up? what about saving your maps? i cant do any of the above.

I think i am going to uninstall the software and reinstall it, to see what happens.

Doug, your AFR's are little too close to stioch if you ask me.....but it may be the O2 sensor.

Tyler, the raw data works for me. I just loaded the file, and played it back offline. One of the menus up top is Playback (Offline)

What version of the software do you have? You should be able to save maps and all that stuff.

I'm hoping to have the data I need tomorrow to scale the coolant temp & MAP sensors. There's a dyno day on saturday, and I may try and attend.

Josh let me in on the info for scaling the map and the coolant temp, as I mearly hooked mine up.

I know all about the offline thing, but mine still wont work unless i am actually hooke up to the pp in my car and my cars ignition is in the "on position. stilll cant save maps.

Yeah, my AFR "seems" lean, but truth be told, it NEVER EVER reads rich. The lowest I have ever seen it has been 14.1. The O2 sensor is probably tweaked, because when I first installed it, it would read rich via the multi-meter, but lately, it would never read higher than .6 (which I bet is close to 14.1?)

When I did the dyno runs, it stayed at 14.? the whole time, even though the wideband read the "real" numbers.

I should be going through and posting that info tonight. But basically there's a blurb about it at the end of the application notes.

I am using the select monitor to read the values of the sensor, and then looking at the perfect power to get the voltages. Once I have the highs and lows, as well as one or two other points in between to verify a linear curve, I can just input the high and low points into the perfect power and it'll scale everything. The MAP & Temp sensors have to be scaled in the DOS application.

I'll be saving the scaling, and you should be able to use the temp sensor. I don't know if I can save that just by itself. But unless you know the actual output of the MAP sensor, and can watch its voltage, scaling it will be pretty tough without a test rig or something.

Yeah, you can have the SMT6 software on any computer, and just download the files to the folder and load them up.

Because the developer's manual said to do that if you weren't going to use it ;).

This, along with a few other things are what I plan to post. I've read through the manuals and picked out a few things I thought were rather pertinent.

Ok, so here's all the documents I read over. I've added highlighting to the text I'm commenting and put bookmarks to my comments at the top of the bookmark list. I'll summerize the notes/comments under each link.

SMT6 Developer's Manual
Notes:
- Extra injector fueling info
- "Complete" engine setup
- Analog deflection - calibration & ground if not used
- RPM deflection - lowest rpm postion is not usable
- Engine temp deflection - if not needed set map to 1.00
- AMP deflection - ground if not needed, and values if not needed
- Analog fuel tunig - upper & lower limit setting

SMT6 Application Notes
Notes:
- Setpoint control - how to use the Auxout with setpoints
- MAF Sensor Adoption - how to use/configure for a different MAF sensor
- MAP & Engine Temp calibration - how to calibrate the two sensors
- The engine temp & MAP sensor maps incriment in 0.019mV steps, so you have to take the voltage of the sensor and divide it by that to get the correct number to input. There's more info in the notes.

SMT6 Installation Guide
Notes: edit: you still want to use the procedure in the book
- Analog Deflection Scale - Even though our TPS's use a falling voltage reading, you would enter the initial reading in the Maximum box. You would add 5% from that number. With the throttle fully applied, you would take that number, and subtract 5% to it, and put it in the minimum box.

SMT6 Windows Tuning Software Manual
Notes:
- Analog Map - Mentions that each value of 1 on the map changes the signal voltage by 0.039 V.

SMT6 DOS Operations Manual
Notes:
- No notes

If anyone doesnt download the zip file, you should. Josh either has WAY too much time on his hands, or has a secretary (male or female, your imagination) tied up in his garage.

Thanks Josh for you editing and notes!

EDIT!!!!!

Is it just me, or does all the highlighting block out the actual words?
