Is there anything that I should replace or clean while I have the legacy engine out before it goes into the impreza?
Its 13 years old with 134,000 miles on it. There should be a lot of stuff to clean/replace.
I'm going to put in new spark plugs and wires, new oil and filter obviously, what else should I do?
Should I just get an engine rebuild kit from subaru and call it good?
Thanks,
Ken

If you have the time, order a gasket kit and replace everything, but don't touch the head gasket if they are good. replace all the rubber hoses and replace the rigid coolant hoses that are rusted, and of course plugs and filters.

Oh, and while its out check the cam plug on the left head at the back, mine feel off on the highway due to aging and rubber driyng out, the engine lost all its oil, good thing i had a pressure gauge. It cost almost nothing and is easy to replace, when the engine is out!

If the rear seperator plate is plastic replace it.
Also pull the oil pump, retorque the phillips screws and replace the little o-ring that goes between the pump and the block.
BTW Subaru has an updated part for this.

I have heard that its a good idea to convert to the newer timing belt tensioner. Might as well do the t belt while you have it out anyway.
I did all of the seals when I had mine out in august... then i did everything and more again when my headgasket went out... and again this month when I get my new pistons.
dont mean to scare
