weird smell when heat is on

Post by 94TurboWagon »

Notice a weird smell, either antifreez cooking or oil or both when heat is on in my 94 Legacy Turbowagon. No coolant leaks visible on ground, and my only oil leak right now is my oil pan which is rotted half way up and Im changing with a new one this week. Water pump and Timing belt were replaced at 135k miles, and just had to go in a few weeks ago and replace the seals cause they were leaking bad, so while I was in there I replaced the belt again as I have several new ones. Heat is very stifling and temperature gauge is dead center. Any ideas?

Usually a coolant smell thru the vents is a heater core leak. Occasionally if you have a bad enough valve cover leak the burning off oil smell can be vented into the car.
