Why didn't they make boosted cars? Nobody bought them originally. They weren't making Subaru money so they dropped them.

As far as I know, the Saabaru (Saab 92-X?) is the only Saab car that is virtually the same as a Subaru. However, some Saab intercoolers do fit on Subaru engines.

The 9-2X Was a WRX Wagon outfitted with a Saab interior (including ignition location lol  )

This was only when GM owned a large portion of subaru...

Then GM wanted Subie to ditch the boxer engine and subaru basically said F**k off. (They knew that would kill them or darn near it)
So then GM being irritated sold their share of subaru thank god... and then a worse thing happened TOYOTA bought it... darn

So that ended the Saabaru similarities.

And they didnt make any turbo cars during that time period was because they only imported a few thousand Legacy Turbos and they thought that people didnt want them even though the only reason they didnt sell was due to lack of inventory...

So there you go hope that answered you questions

Do you seriously believe that the Legacy has Camry taillights? Coz it doesn't.

The 90's were not kind to Subaru. The Legacy didn't sell as expected when it first came out, and when the Loyale was dropped, sales dropped even more. Subaru was literally in danger of pulling out of the US market until they came out with the Outback.

I'm going to ruffle some feathers, but I liked Subaru better when they weren't making the current generation of turbo cars.

Wow, wasn't aware that a whopping 20% meant a large portion.

Anyway, I'd rather Toyota own the ~8.7% or whatever it really is, than GM own any portion of Subaru

well Toyota is obviously having an impact if they are making Camrys and Legacys in the same plant
i have heard, but can no longer find were i heard it, that Toyota was considering a much larger share in Subaru to become a majority share holder

I meant relatively large... its bigger than Toyota's stake is. And it was enought to throw off some things cough tribeca cough...

Toyota has the legal right to buy more of Subaru, but the prez has already made a public statement saying he does not plan to.

The law in Japan that disallowed one company from buying more than 52% (I think) of one particular company has been lifted.

Toyota, in my opinion, will likely buy out Daihatsu before they'll buy out Subaru. They already own that previous threshold of 52% of Daihatsu.

And you people do know where the Subaru AVCS came from right?

Rule of business 101...It's always about the money.

Legacy Turbos didn't sell well enough to pay for the reseach and upgrades that would have been neccisary to smog the turbo motor in 1996.

Look at alot of 'enthusiast' vehicles. Many pulled out the 'top' motor for '96, or very close to '96. RX-7, Supra TT (no manuals), Tbird Supercoupe, MR2 turbo. Those are just off the top of my head. All died right about the same time. All because sales dropped below some red line drawn in the accountants office. Many related to new OBD2 smog requirements as well.

At least the Legacy has the better looking tail lights than the Camry and not the other way around.

It's good that Toyota owns enough of Subaru that they could use their megabucks or influx of new tech to float Subaru through a possible bad time.
It'll be a shame if they corporate-blandify all the new Subies.

Subaru AVCS came out before the Toyota buy in.

Not saying it's not tech borrowed from Toyota, only that it predates the GM sell off.

I know, but one of the mechanics here at the shop was told in one of his classes that Subaru basically purchased VVT-i from Toyota for the AVCS system.

And say what you want, the Type-I BL/BP Legacy (before they screwed it up for 08 ) is my fave gen of Legacy.

Yeah, what exactly did Subaru screw up with the '08's?

Well, for one thing the new WRX doesn't have a rear LSD anymore. :x
Electronic control is not as fun as proper mechanicals.

I'm hating this new trend of making Subarus for average drivers instead of enthusiasts and Subie fans.
