RS - The forerunner to the WRX

Post by Ross »

What infuriates me sometimes(Ok, not infuriates, but gets my goat) is the amount of people who remain blissfully unaware of what an RS Liberty is. When you try to explain, how many people ask you 'is that a WRX?" What is even worse are (usually younger) WRX owners who have never even heard of the RS Liberty! I suppose the advantage is seeing the look on peoples faces when you blow past them (not WRXs) in an RS! Any thoughts anyone?

RS - The forerunner to the WRX

Post by Rod »

i suppose it's because all the publicity has been over the wrx. the rs is a sheep in wolfs clothing, the way i like it. it has always had all the comfort and features of a cruising sedan/wagon, ie cruise control, map lights, more room, quieter, etc.PLUS the bonus of power.
they only made the rs for a short period of time, 3-4 years i think, compared to the wrx thats now been around since 1994, heaps more of them on the road.

RS - The forerunner to the WRX

Well, don't be too despondent... I know of the odd BC-BF Legacy RS that will
eat most WRXs (not STi's!)... bearing in mind that the stock horsepower is
loosely the same at 200-250hp for either model, although the WRX has
100-200kg weight advantage.
Also, the average twin turbo Legacy will convincely trounce an average WRX
also... albeit from a rolling 100kmph start.

Horses for courses, I reckon.

Doug, by your email address I figure you are in Australia? Are you going to
buy a second hand RS Turbo or are you looking at buying a new Liberty? If
you wait, you might be able to buy a new TTLiberty B4, that is if Subaru
Australia ever import them.
Cheers
Ross

RS - The forerunner to the WRX

Post by Doug Hancock »

According to motor magazine they were ment to be here in Oct 2000. So much
for that. Yeh I live in the Newcastle area. I will be looking for an rs
wagon and maybe swap it for a b4 latter on in life if Subaru hurries up
about it. I have a mate that was looking for a half cut from the b4 to go
into his NA 89 liberty but was talked out of it because it was to hard to
tune over here as very little people know how they run. Even the people that
have imported them recomend not getting them (don't know if this is true).
