Clear Lens Headlights?

Post by Dewey 8d »

So you probably don't know me yet, but here is my intro: http://bbs.legacycentral.org/viewtopic.php?t=33977

I just bought a '91 Legacy L Wagon and can't stand the blaring-80's look of the headlights on it. I love the car, already have a set of WRX wheels to go on it for my first mod, but really need to ditch these headlights. Does anybody know where I could purchase a set with actual clear lenses as opposed to just buying direct replacements and keeping them polished?

Thank you,
Justin :-D

Welcome,
Blackbart may have a set of pre-facelift glass headlights left. He was selling them for a while.
But he's soakin' up the sun somewhere tropical now. You'll have to contact him next year.
Until then, try clearing them. Info on howto is in the body section, I believe.

If you want modern lighting, you'll have to custom build something.

hey build something custom huh? how hot does the area around the bulb get? Would fiberglass work? Or would it just melt away from the heat?

Pretty sure it would melt it or at least deform it.

Ditto. I have plans to graft a ZX-9R tail section on to my '80 Kawi 750 (turned into a Cafe style bike).

The heat of what kind of lights? Fiberglass would be fine. The glass fibers themselves are extremely heat resistant. The standard material for the OEM halogen housing is a type of heat resistant plastic with polycarbonate for the lens. The projectors don't get as hot as OEM and there's only a small vent for condensation purposes.

What kind of projectors did you use & where did you get them? I'd like to perform the same mod on my car. I can pick up a spare set of lights locally for pretty cheap.
