Nice!

And what type of headunit?

Basically, make the wiring harness, remove the brackets off the old headunit and put them on the new one and put it in, its fairly straight forward.

But knowing the headunit would help a lot.

PM if you want more specific stuff, Im on my way to school...

Nice wagon & nice beach shot too!

If you ever decide to "shave" the emblems from the rear of the car, I'd love to take the LIBERTY emblem off your hands. We kinda go nuts over the Liberty stuff herer since we don't get the car labeled as such.

pull out cup holders over radio
undo 2 screws (1 on each side) that are exposed when the cup holder is pulled out
pull out ashtray
undo screw(s) over the ashtray
remove bezel
undo 6 six screws (3 on each metal bracket) you will only see 4 of them the other 2 are set far back in between the other 2.
pull out radio
remove harness and antenna connector

I think/hope you can figure out the rest

Stereos are measured in standard units... dins

the stock stereo is an awkward size, a 1 1/2 din...

The one you want to use is a 1 din.

Width is the same, height is the only difference.

So if you put it in there as is there will be a small slot approx 3/4 of an inch high... thats like a centimeter and a half ish.

You can get a pocket like the one with a flap that goes underneath it and swap it in so you have a huge compartment under the stereo.

generally this is what people do. Maybe someone here will be able to give you the dealer part number for that compartment.

Does your car have the double-DIN size opening? If so, you can get an adapter from any audio shop that will convert it to a single-DIN, that blanks out the extra space, or some others provide a little storage slot for CDs. A lot of folks here use the extra spaces to mount auxiliary electronics, like turbo timers or engine management computer interfaces.

Oz uses the Japanese frequencies in car radios, right? You can get nice double-size units direct from there, including the rare, and from reports, incredible-sounding McIntosh units, keep an eye on Ebay.

I used a US WRX 6-disc from '02 in my '91, bolts right in, but I had to splice in a newer connector plug, as the '92 and later cars went to different plugs on a lot of components.

Congrats on the car, and welcome to the community. We'll be hitting you up for anything that says "Liberty" on it, and especially for anything off of a RS.

thanks for your help

i'll check out whether it has the double DIN opening. Sounds like a good idea to use the extra space for something like aux electronics, cpu interfaces etc. Need some more cash first but.

yeah pretty sure we use Japanese frequencies here . I will keep my eye for double size units but atm im just keen to get some beats on so im not gonna do to much waiting.

haha Liberty is all i see here in aus. I guess the Subaru Outback's we see here in Oz are just called legacy's in the states? you know the slightly more raised brother of the legacy's?

Outbacks started as a trim level of Legacy wagon, then evolved into an officially separate model, but yeah, it's a Legacy underneath. Liberty was only sold in Oz, some sort of issue with the Legacy name being unavailable, I can't remember the reason...

smh0101 is right about the stock stereo size, at 1.5 DIN, but the dash opening will accept 2 DIN if the bottom pocket is taken out.

I've seen, (and just bought one) a single-DIN console trim on European cars, with a clock built into it. Look around scrapyards, you guys may have gotten them as well. USDM only got the 1.5 size.

Speaking of Outbacks, your wagon seems to be riding quite high, compared to Legacy wagons I see here... it''s similar to the ride height of Outbacks...do you know if the suspension has been changed, or is it the airbag adjustable setup?

yeah the previous owner had it raised 40mm. He did a lot of offroad driving. He was head of the subaru club here in perth. The club pretty does monthly trips around Western Australia. Its raised height is that of the max height from the ajustable air setup.

I would prefer it to be lowered but this will come in handy as i plan to do a bit of offroad work when i go surfing in the SW and NW.

Ya know, you could be "rare" and swap us for USDM parts to install on your car. That would set you apart over there for sure...

Why would you want a rear fog light on the wrong side of your car?

I own a sedan... So I don't care about the tail light. I want the LIBERTY badge on from the rear. *wink wink, nudge nudge*

Man, we are such vultures huh??
