put it back on or leave it? that, is the question

Post by Murphy »

so while my car was being fixed after its slight encounter with the third kind (of curb that is), i had the muffler (just rear section) off of the car.
i wanted to hear what it sounded like, so i started it up, and low and behold, it sounded awesome! i ended up driving around for the day like that, and went to school with the muffler in the truck, planning on re-installing it with new bolts in auto shop class. but i was persuaded to keep it off by the rest of the class.

heres a video, it sound really mean at 4500rpms, but the engine was cold so i didnt go to high

so ive been debating whether or not to go ahead an put it back on, it does sound great, but my car is slow and i dont want to look like a ricer. but other than that i cant think of a good reason i need to, i have already passed several state troopers, none of them even noticed me.

Lol I'm guessing that just about everyone on this board is going to tell you that it sounds awesome and to keep it off, or find a straight tailpipe/muffler to put on.

It sounds sick (the good kind of sick) in my opinion.

that sir, is a ricer thing to do. just go get a muffler welded or at the very least, some piping.

What you could do... Is put the muffler back on but not hook it up so it still sounds good but nobody will notice the lack of pipes extending from the rear.

Its sounds like Andys car without the turbo spooling.

I have a cobb exhaust that sounds really good... but not loud until you WOT it... or Downshift.

Do what you want to do... it is your car, do with it as you will.

it bolts up, the muffler is in the trunk of the car and the new bolts are in my pocket. its a little noisy at cruising speed so i might just put it back on tomorrow, dont really know

If it's too loud your car sounds broken and people look at you like low life...you may not live in a trailer people will think you do <grin>

its not that loud really, the idle with out the pipe is almost as quiet as with it, its just that when you are cruising it can get annoying, and it doesnt sound good when the transmission goes into to high of a gear and bogs the motor

i already put it back on though, i have i friend that wants to sell me a Super 40, i might think about it, i really like the tips on the stock exhaust though
