Possible FS in MD: 1991 Legacy with EJ22T/16G Swap

Post by Crashsector »

So I may have to shuffle some vehicles around and there may not be room for my project car in a few months. I'm playing around with the idea of seeing what I can get for it now. Here's the breakdown.

This is a 1991 Legacy L body with a Legacy Turbo swap. Very little, if anything, on this car is stock.

EJ22T Engine (2.2L, closed deck) with 120k miles
TD05-16G turbo
680cc modified N/A injectors
Walbro fuel pump
TurboXS DTEC
2006 WRX TMIC
2004 WRX 5-speed transmission and rear differential (much stronger than the stock Legacy Turbo setup)
JECS upgraded MAF
TurboXS MBC (stock boost control solenoid is dead)
TurboXS downpipe, custom 3" catless exhaust, Greddy muffler
2004 STi steering rack with custom steering U-joint and power steering lines
Karboy short shifter, shift knob, front and rear shift bushings
STI engine, pitch stop, and transmission mounts
TiC race clunk-killer rear diff bushing kit
2007 Forester struts/springs with less than 3k miles
Brand new timing belt and timing belt cover

The Good:

- It runs.
- It is really f***ing powerful. It will run up to 26psi of boost before hitting fuel cut. With a FCD it will probably hit 30 with enough open road, but that would be illegal.
- It's OBDI, so no pesky cat CEL's.
- It's pretty much a GC8, so almost any Impreza parts will bolt up with a few exceptions.
- I'm including two sets of wheels - the 14" steelies that came on the 91 L and a set of 2005 WRX wheels with tires.
- It has brand new ball joints and inner and outer tie rods.
- There is more than enough life left in the brakes to pass inspection.

The Bad:
- It has no interior aside from two 2.5RS seats. The old interior wasn't worth keeping. The upshot is you should be able to find carpet pretty cheaply from junkyards, and Impreza seats will fit.
- It has problems idling. It used to stall when it would come to an idle, so I increased the idle set screw which makes driving it... interesting. However I'm pretty sure it's a problem with the idle air control valve, and I'll include a replacement valve with the sale.
- The body is in good shape for having 190k miles on it, but it's not pristine. There are a few dents/parking lots scrapes, and the paint isn't the greatest. Pics will be up in a day or two. But this car wasn't built for looks.
- The car has never had a proper dyno tune for the setup it's on. Jermaine at TurboXS only did a quick road tune so I could use it to get around occasionally.
- It needs an alignment. Badly.
- It has no AC. Both compressors were seized and I had to cut a few of the lines to get them out of the way for the swap. Adding AC back in would be pretty expensive since you would have to do a R134a conversion. I still have the AC condensor and one or two of the lines, which I'll include if requested.
- Cruise control was removed during the swap, and the hill holder was disabled.

This powertrain was in Edwin's 94 Legacy Turbo when his brother rolled it. I did all of the swap work myself and there are no signs of any damage from the accident. This powertrain did over 300WHP on a 50/50 mix of race gas and 93 octane, and over 450WHP with a monster 50 trim turbo.

I'm open to offers on this car, but I'm looking well into four figures for the whole setup. You can't buy the shortblocks from Subaru any more either, so whatever is out there is all that's left.

Now asking $2000. The shortblock and tranny are worth more than half of that alone... $2k gets you a whole car!

Thanks!
