Subies in Nairobi

Post by Dynamic Entry »

Just landed in Nairobi last night and am staying in the city to do some stuff before heading out to the middle of no where in Kenya.

There are quite a few subarus here; legacy, impreza and forester. And they seem to be either JDM or EDM so they look cool and have the nice bits. First car I saw parked next to the airport doors was a red Forester. nice welcome.

There is a lot od disparity on the roads, some nice Benz suvs running around but mostly run down mitsus, toyota, peaugot, etcetera. But in general it's an older fleet so i have seen many 1st gen wagons around. but no turbos yet......

i'd take pics but I am not sure how much i want to have my camera with me lookin like a tourist and snappin pictures instead of keeping my head up....

Definitely keep an eye out for everything. At risk of sounding like an ignorant American summarizing an entire continent by a trip to one nearly removed country (Arab-dominant Egypt) and several people I've worked with from over a half-dozen other countries, I found African people to be very friendly. Muslim Arabs, not so much, Christian Arabs OK.

Oh, and I also found nobody hates Canadians (unlike Americans). They all seemed to know the maple leaf and Canada Dry ginger ale and a few knew hockey.
Midnight in a Perfect World on Amazon or order anywhere. The first book in a quartet chronicling the rise of a man from angry criminal to philanthropist. Midnight... is a distopic noirish novel featuring 'Duchess', a modified 1990 Subaru Legacy wagon.

+1 on the Canada love. I was in Egypt with a co-worker who was Canadian and we were getting the "stupid american" stuff pretty heavy (from both locals and touring Russians). He showed his Canadian ID and they left us alone and were nice.
