What on gods green earth is wrong with the AC system ..

Post by Herm99 »

on this fuggin car????!!!!!!

First 3, yes THREE times it leaked, i attempted to fix/find the leak myself, i thought i did it. Would hold charge for about 2 weeks, then poof, gone. Finally got fed up and took it to not one, BUT TWO different auto shops, one of them specialized in AC repair, first shop sucked, didnt find any leaks. Second shop was slightly better and found that my R134 fittings were leaking and needed tightening, so they tighten and recharge.

3 weeks go by, and poof, gone....i'm so feckin fed up with this ac system, what a giangantic piece of shit.

Called the shop and told them i'm bringing it back to them tomorrow...lets see how long it last now.

Did they put UV dye in the system?

That's what you need to do. Trust me! If that stuff is in there, and it leaks, you will most definitely be able to see where it's leaking with a UV light.

However the shops should have pulled a vacuum and see if it held for 15-30 minutes before they ever charged it.

Most likely it is the compressor itself because when it is cool it will leak. The seals on the shaft can dry up. I had the same problem, amazingly the stop leak product for A/C at a auto parts store fixed it. The product was called proleak I believe? Either way I think the main idea is it lubes up the seals and seals up fine leaks. Went through the whole summer and it did not loose its charge.

I'm not sure how they tested for leaks, apparently they are supposed to be a pretty good ac shop, i dropped my car off there tonight, and will know the answer tomorrow sometime, i'll update you guys.
Thanks for the input.

Got the car back today, they warrantied their work so it didnt cost me anything..yay. The problem was that damn R134 fitting (charge port) AGAIN..somehow it worked itself loose, so they just had to retighten it again, and recharge the system.

If it leaks again, i'll just buy a new fitting, its possible the sealant stuff in that fitting was no good. In the meantime, ac is working great again.
