I aquired the car from a customer when I first started at RalliTek.
First mods where intercooler, wheels, and springs.
And some interior bits.
Pilot foglights, the cheep $20 ones fit perfectlly in the stock turn signal housings with a little help from ol' Mr. Dremel tool.
Then did a little hood scoopy thing.
The fogs and scoop.
I really think the scoop made some power, actually cooling the topmount. It worked so well in fact that it came apart and flew off at a high rate of speed late one night.
Heres a couple post rallycross pics. I put some 65 series tires on the old alloys. Lifted the suspension with with some custom coilover sleeves.
Later I aquired an AVO 320, and built a rotated pipe set.
Max hp I think I made with this setup was 280hp, pinging like hell @ 20 psi before it hit fuel cut, and they kicked me off the dyno cause so much oil was leaking onto the headers it filled up the shop!
Davey and I tore it apart, and a week later came up with this.
[/img]
The ABS no longer worked correctlly, and cluttered up the motor bay, so I pulled some non ABS lines from another car. Easy swap.
Relocated the battery to the trunk, mounted 05 LGT front brakes...
The heads were 04' STI. The drivers side had a tick in it. All the lifters measured out to spec. But something went terriblly wrong..........

It is interested instead of just having intake manifold spacers made to use a front entry turbo you went with a stock placement rotated mount. Nice car, what was terribly wrong?

You KIDDING me? That's the LAST year that the Legacy looked good.... until the 2.5GT package appeared in 1998-ish...brando wrote:Nice to see your car working again. Word up to having crappy 91's
From the front, anyway. Bland facelift is bland.
Love that red '91. Love the NASCAR shift setup. Keep on truckin.
Oh Brandos just bitter from the long battle hes had with his.
The pilot lights were really easy to do. Just cut out the back of the turn signal lens with a dremel tool, and modified the brackets that came with the fogs. Move the bulb socket down to the bottom section. The lenses that came on my car I think were clear already.
Thanks for all the nice comments guys. Still havnt started the tuning yet. According to my wideband the AFRs get down to low 10's @ 12psi
So Ive just been stayin out of the boost for now. Under cruise though it seems as though the factory ECU is doing a good job of keeping AFRs in the 14s. I really didnt think out ECUs watched the o2 sensor that much?
Found a couple small vacum leaks yesterday. Turns out the 22t throttle body doesnt "exactlly" fit this manifold and there was a tiny gap where the Idle circuit bypasses the throttle plate. I replaced the paper gasket with cork and hopefully it will kinda squish in and fill the gap, and stay that way. Seems to be working thus far.

Thanks a lot. I tried to make it look as simple as possable, turns out theres a bunch of shit floating around in there thats totally useless!n2x4 wrote:Update? You've got the cleanest engine bay of any Subaru I've seen.
I havn't really done much to it since I got it back together. Just driving it daily. Theres an autocross group here that Ive been racing with.

Looks like we've been missing each other. I've heard a lot about the car from Dave when he was at RalliTek and Gabe Von. Not to mention that I've raced at Medford's go-kart track and met some of the same people.
Great looking SS.

Kelly--you used the ej22t throttle body with that ej20h manifold?
Did you flip it over kind of like Doug did?
The stock throttle cable was able to reach over to the the other side?
Doesn't look like you are using cruise control. Is that correct?
Why not use the throttle body that goes with that mainfold?

And Kelly...
Those coilover sleeves that you had... are now on my car...
You gave/sold/whateve them to Dave, who gave them to Andy (92ss satinsvoice), who traded'em to me!
lol... those + blown stock struts + 225/45r17 tires = interesting on back roads lol
Do you know what the spring rates are on them?

Im not sure exactlly what the spring rates were. Somewhere around a metric shitload.
I think they were for an accord.
John was asking questions about the EJ20h manifold.
There was some serious grinding envolved John, to get the TB to fit. The bolts lined up I beleive, but there was a small gap where the 22t TB had a little notch for a vac line, or bypass circuit or something. I made a cork gasket, and used a little silicone to block that off, but it always gave me problems. The way to do it, is make a spacer. If you could get someone to make a plastic spacer that was a half inch thick, you woulndt have to grind the manifold much, if at all, and you could get the TB to seal up completelly.
If I recall, I think I had to grind down the Throttle position plug as well.
Long story short, It just barelly fit after some head scratching, and a bit of "afro tek engineering".

Yeah, they a stiff as hell... and quite bouncy with 150% blown struts... so blown that they suck inwards! lol
I have now discovered places where i get air, that before were just nice little bumps
Oh and when you turned... did the pop then make the car pull to one direction? if it did... how did you fix it... or did you just live with it?
Its kinda weird...
