I was gonna say deadbolt, but a buddy of mine had a 18G clipped & rebalanced CHEAP @ a some place, I'll get the info from him.

I bet they could do a nice rebuild on the cheap or may have a rebuild kit - even cheaper!

I just got a 17B compressor housing/wheel that I was thinking about slapping onto an on 14b center section for a cheap medium sized turbo.

My friend has dealt with a few of the bigger turbo places for clipping/porting rebuilds & actually likes this place very good quality & prices.

Looking @ the 18G he just had clipped & balanced by the above place they did an excellent job...

The compressor housing I got was actually a TD06 17C (not a 17b) off a Typhoon/Cyclone, I plan on having these guys make me a TD06/TD05 hybird turbo with a old 14b I have laying around. Its not really an upgrade from a 16G, as it flows just 550CFM but it is a decent step up from a TD05-14b which flows just 405cfm.

Well if you are already in there you may as well upgrade!

Still much cheaper than a new 16G.

Found out the TD06-17C Typhoon/Cyclone compressor I have was upgraded to either TD06-18G (585cfm @ 1 bar) or TD06-20G (650CFM @ 1 bar) trim.

So this little hybird should be a nice upgrade to a TD05-16G once I get the work done to make the TD05-14b into a TD06/TD05 Hybird.

Here is some turbo info.

That will bolt up, as it has the Subaru specific exhaust flanges (in from uppipe, out to downpipe).

You'll need to come up with something for the inlet (weld on a 90* aluminum piece or get a 90* silicone elbow)

They are rebuildable, and can accept the updated (ie. lower resistance/faster spooling bearing cartridge). I had been talking to these guys here: http://6starspeed.com/, but I'm sure there are other (and possibly cheaper!) businesses that'll do it as well.

ya I knew there rebuildable, but I kinna wanted the most out of a new TD05 since it's easier and cheaper than upgrading to a VF39/550/Re-chipped RobTune.

All iv'e seen is blouch and a few others, but there all the straight in type. So I figured I might as well upgrade if its blown.

Then again a faster spool alone would be a great upgrade alone since im fairly happy with the power. But lets be honest, we could always use a few extra HP ! :-D

Yeah I've been contemplating having mine (a 90* inlet also) rebuilt with bigger wheels, and a twinscroll housing. I really need to get my RS swapped before I can spend money on the SS though. :(

Ya it minna looks like the only option as I can't find any aftermarket companies that make a P&P unit with a 90.

I'm waiting for an email back from Blouch, and if they don't sell any which I assume they don't . I'll get a quote on having mine rebuilt and beefed up.

I'm just not sure what the best combo for me would be since I'm running SOHC, an 8cm turbine might be to big and spool way to slow, but I have no idea ?

Sounds like I'm SOL unless I wanna purchase a new one and pray a short radius 90 would fit.

I spoke with Blouch and they said only a factory rebuild was possible with them and no upgrades can be made. Only an 8cm exhaust housing, but nothing to the compressor side.

On my old TD04 I had an aluminum 90 trimmed up and welded on, but it was extremely tight and that was on a smaller housing. Not sure if that would work on a larger TD05 ?

So I'm not sure what I'm gonna do, I'll have to pull the turbo and find out what the damage is. Cause if there's anything wrong with the cartridge it would probably be $800 to fix. Which is the cost of a brand new Kinugawa TD05 (Big, 8cm. $650) and pretty close to a Blouch TD05-16G (small, 7cm $1000)
