As I recall, I am running a Mitsubishi TD04 from a JDM Legacy. It was not a direct bolt-on, but anything worth doing takes a bit of frankensteining. I am in Seattle and my car is in Spokane, so I can't check for sure.
Newer WRX intercoolers are too wide from firewall forward. The EJ22T throttle body is longer than the EJ20G throttle body and there isn't enough room between the TB and the firewall. My son bought a box of newer WRX intercoolers from UK and he had a hell of a time getting rid of them because they didn't fit any USA Subarus. The angle one isn't the cutting edge of performance, but it can be fashioned to fit.
I run a 3" catless mild steel, mostly non-mandrel exhaust system with a straight-through street rod bullet glasspak. I received a "citation of excellence" from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police for my impressive exhaust note. It spools up just fine.
The nut weld for the O2 sensor on my custom downpipe has been problematic. It cracks and it also gives erratic readings. We are now goint to patch on the O2 bung from a Volvo and go back to stock O2 sensor penetration. I tried to have less protrusion, but readings weren't as precise as with full penetration.
I saw a neat trick the other day. When testing the O2 sensor, the mechanic just T-eed a tube into the vacuum lines and fed the engine propane from a camp stove bottle and regulator to see how it affected both the running of the car and the voltage of the O2 sensor. What a great way to diagnose whether a little extra fuel will cure a problem. I was impressed.
