My Home-Made FXT BPV Adapter!

Post by SLODRIVE »

This is a BPV adapter that I made today, out of stuff laying around the garage. Check it out and comment! :D

I took a scrap of 3/16" steel and cut it into the shape of the Forester's BPV flange with a chop saw and a grinder. I then drilled the holes for the mounting studs and the outlet tube.
Image

I then took a piece of 3/4" steel tubing and cut it at a 45 degree angle, then welded it back together to make an elbow.
Image

I cut the elbow down as low as I could before I welded it to the plate...

Welds ground and painted:

Here's how it looks on the TMIC. The hose for the BPV will run right under the TB, and it clears the throttle linkage no problem, as the garage-floor mockup shows:

The stock BPV hose is 3/4" ID, same size as the pipe I used...it'll be a direct fit.

This stuff can easily be found at any Lowe's or Home Depot (or in my case, sitting in the scrap metal box in the garage!). :-D

Right, also the hose nipple on the FXT BPV is larger than the Legacy's hose.

Perfect. Thank you for posting this. I have been looking everywhere to try and find a fix for my FXT intercooler. That stupid flange is different then every other subaru one I could find.

I did this as well but for my wrx intercooler and used the stock bpv and my turbo had compressor surge bad. That tiny uole or maybe the stock bpv was not letting enough pressure out fast enough. Eventually I got an ebay bpv with much larger diameter inlet and outlets and I made another plate just to seal that bpv hole up on my tmic. Then I cut a hole in my y pipe setup and welded on a pipe angled off of that to the ebay bpv so it dumps before the intercooler and now there's zero compressor surge. Just a nice clean crisp quick psshh every time. I don't know if anyone else had this issue or not but I imagine many do and don't realizd its bad for the turbo or that its not supposed to sound that way. As jeremy clarkson put it,"ramming squirrels into the turbo". Or something like that.

Interesting. What size pipe was it? And how much boost? I'm at 18psi.

nice job

i agree with kimokalihi, you need a bigger diameter tube... i used the stock one for a while and had surge, with stock turbo.. then i made new plates to run the stock forester one and it worked perfect tell i dropped my timing belt..

i also would recommend running it back into the intake tube befor the turbo, after the MAF.. this helps keep air/fuel ratio right..

I think everyone plumbs it up to dump into the intake just before the turbo. Wouldn't make sense to do it any other way unless you're talking about dumping to atmosphere.
