Should I use Synthetic oil at high mileage?
I bought my Turbo Legacy with 143000miles, I don't know about the
piror oil history of the car. Should I swtich to synthetic at this
high mileage? I heard synthetic oil is not really meant for high
mileage car, am I wrong?

I wouldn't recommend it on your high mileage engine....

You probably shouldn't I guess there have been cases where the high
detergent lower weight synthetic oil has cleaned things up so well
that leaks would appear but then again the leak may show up later. I
did find something at the heavy truck service places that I mentioned
as a good place to buy silicon hose, they have some very good oil at
good prices. The Freight Liner place here carries Shell Rotlla and
Mobile Delvac, these are very good oils for any engine.

will find every nook and cranny in the mating/gaskets surfaces and
slip right through them as i found out using mobil one and castrol
syntech..the motors ran a lot smoother and gas mileage was better but
oil everywhere.. the synthetic blend works much better...easier on

So, did you switch back to conventional oil afterwards? And what
happened?

Should I use Synthetic oil at high mileage?
SO what is the ultimate choice? Run a crappy oil that doesn't work as well?
Or replace a few gaskets so you know the engine is in tip top shape and
run real oil?

Should I use Synthetic oil at high mileage?
I chose to switch at about 90k miles, and i did develop a slight
leak in the right side valve cover, but i figure it's for the better
good of the engine that i use synthetic.

I think that a high grade regular oil would be close to a synthetic
and I also look at what is run in engines in commercial heavy duty
applications like trucks where a engine overhaul can cost $10,000 and
up. They are using high end regular oil like I bought at the truck
place 16 quarts for $26.00.

Did it leak from the cover or from the cam seal? Cam seal leak is a

I haven't cared enough to actually look. It's in the back side,
near the downpipe. A tiny drip never hurt anything in my book.

I chose to switch at about 90k miles, and i did develop a slight
leak in the right side valve cover, but i figure it's for the better
good of the engine that i use synthetic.

Should I use Synthetic oil at high mileage?
Still on synthetic at 170k miles - yep - leaking starboard side valve cover but common in these cars.
