Flat out can blow out your AGX's and make aligning your car a bitch - screw up handling for looks etc. lowering car bad, bad, bad...I would NEVER do anything just for looks <Grin>

Definitely look into H&R, they have a spring kit for our car, made in Germany, lowers per the lowering spring high thread makes the car look terriff...oops.

Call Paul for good prices. They drop ship amazingly fast to the Northwest.

Why wait for a container from AUS?

if you're looking for something whiteline, the best way is to look up the part number with whiteline's online catalog, and then call up a place like racecomp engineering or south coast performance etc with the part number. They'll be able to order it for you and tell you if they're stocked in the US.

I'm not doing it for looks, I'm prepping my car up so that when sticky tires (read: All-season sport) and grabby brakes (WRX front kit and replacement rears with cyrogen slotted rotors and semi-autocross pads) go on, I'll actually be able to put them to good use. :)

Bottom line. Brand doesn't really matter too much as long as it's a good quality product. And the H&R springs don't come as a package for my wagon... I imagine my ass will ride lower than the front if I put on sedan springs? :/

If you really want sticky tires, don't get all-seasons. yeah, there are some good all-seasons out there, but azenis are cheap and really sticky.

Unless I have a new set of wheels that I can mount them on, I think I'll pass.

Jamal is right. An awesome suspension, and good brakes are only as good as your tires. All wheel drive or not, there's a pretty good difference between all season and performance tires. What all seasons were you considering?

it depends how much money you want to spend. Just getting a set of new KYBs is going to be a massive improvement.

You could go with a set of GR2s on the cheap, or if you want better handling and can spend more money, AGXes paired with some new spring would be better.

I think all you need to swap on a set of GC impreza springs are the front upper spring perches. Unfortunately I haven't kept up to date with which springs are available for them. I would browse the GC classifieds on nasioc and rs25 to try to find some springs.

I would browse the RS25 classifieds, and find a complete set of GC (93-01) impreza suspension, preferably with aftermarket springs.

Then, I would buy a new set of GC impreza struts, either KYB GR-2 or AGX, and then swap everything onto them.

Availability of parts for 1st gen legacies was never very good. at least there was a bit more out there for imprezas. Going to a full impreza setup at least opens up your options and makes it easier to find ysed stuff.

There are ways to make '05+ STI stuff fit, but it took me a while to figure that out. You just need to swap out the hubs, spindles and all that stuff out. I have a '92 Legacy L that started out as a N/A front wheel drive manual. It is now going to be riding on '07 STI running gear with '07 6 speed and EZ30R turbo swap.

Well, that wasn't really the scope of this thread, but OK. Swapping the whole driveline makes everything easier.

KYB makes direct replacement struts for your Legacy, so I'd go that route.

This thread has the part #'s. It is old info, so I'd suggest confirming that those are the correct part #'s. You can go to KYB's website and they have an online catalog.

Hi there.

My suspension is very tired and I'm looking for a cheap replacement. I'll need the whole assembly, coils, struts and all the bits and pieces.

Is KYB the way to go and is there no way to get it in a package including everything?

KYB only makes struts and mounts typically. You would need to reuse your springs or get them from another manufacturer.

Other members have had very good luck with H&R springs on KYB dampers.

HI Jamal, thanks for all this. I'm new to the site and new to the Car (90 L Awd wagon) . my car came with some seriously jacked shocks, replacing them with KYB excel-g. Also replacing the whole suspension front end while I'm at it with a bunch of moog stuff from rockauto.

I would love to upgrade the sway bars, at least with the turbo sway but I'm not sure how to find it. All I have found are the 22mm whiteline which feels like over-kill for this car that will never see the track,

thanks,
Aarin

Hey Aarin, that's all a good start. Fresh struts, ball joints, tie rods, etc go a long way.

18/18 is pretty good, but I liked 20 f with a 22mm rear bar set soft more, and am currently using 22 mm adjustable bars front and rear with the front to soft and the rear to stiff. Which is maybe the equivalent of 21/23. This is good on pavement, but a little stiff and twitchy for gravel and snow.

Problem is everything that is both larger and fits is kind of hard to come by these days. Your 90 has the old vertical drop link rear endlinks. I don't remember if you can use a swaybar for the 92(93?)-99 without also swapping lateral links and endlinks to the c-shaped ones. You would have to find a 91 turbo legacy bar otherwise to upgrade.

On the aftermarket, the whiteline 22mm adjustable bar for the c- endlinks is the only thing I know of that's still made, and those are out of stock at the two distributors I use. I can check if whiteline usa has one next week though.

1992 also has the old style lateral links, but you can use the newer style bars.
