Front Brake Work Problem

Post by furtherrad »

Hey guys,
I've recently changed my front rotors and pads on my '91 Legacy
U.S. spec, turbo with 15" wheels with stock size rotors. The pads
are from Metal Masters. My problem is multi-faceted. First, the
pads weren't the same size as the O.E. pads, so I couldn't fit the
shims and the only one of the two anti-rattle clips would go on each
rotor. Secondly, I took it for a test drive to bed the pads and I'm
getting a metallic noise from the right (passenger side) rotor.
Could it be a rattle clip in the way. Do I need to find a proper
sized shim? All advice is greatly appreciated. Also I tried another
source of pads and they were identical to the Metal Masters.
Thanks,
Andrew Mouser

Front Brake Work Problem

is the noise there constantly or just when applying the brakes? If constant something is scraping, jack up the car remove the wheel turn the disc to see where.
If the pads were the wrong size I would not have fitted them and perhaps looked at a different brand..
cheers, Rod

Front Brake Work Problem

I'd say it's pretty constant scraping with increase
when the brakes are applied. I'm going to see if I
can match up the old pads at the parts store. Thanks
for your help.

Front Brake Work Problem

Post by Josh Colombo »

Those damn anti-rattle pads make more noise then they're supposed to
fix. Keep the little clips that go on the caliper there. But the ones
that go on the back of the pad....get rid of them. Buy some of the disc
brake quieter stuff.....get the red paste stuff from crc. it works the
best....smear it all over the back of the pad.....and you should be
golden.

That's the only stuff I've found that works very good.
