Yes, and I have to have one. Its going to be a lot cheaper than a twin disk clutch though.

Finished the wastegate plumbing tonight. All I can say is my welds would be prettier if I was a hair more sober, lol. But meh, they'll hold. I've never had a weld crack and I use leaded wire. I could turn the wire and voltage down a hair, but fuck it.

I had to move the wastegate dump closer to the DP because it was touching the CV boot after moving the turbo about an inch forward. Oh well. It'll work.

The up-pipe, turbo, and wastegate can be removed as one unit, which is FTW X 112324123421.

Also, Newcastle is for weenies

Here you can see just how much clearance I have to the firewall. Much more than before.

Is that an air compressor fitting sticking out of the white thing so you can check for leaks in your welding?

^ Its a valve stem for a rim and a PVC end cap. I use it to check my IC plumbing for leaks.

I just stuck it in there to keep crud out of the compressor.

Just the downpipe? That's easy. As long as your turbo is in the exact same spot, and has a V-band outlet, we should be good to go.

I stopped at Fobia's again tonight. Welded the extensions on the cast elbows so I can finish the charge piping this weekend after I finish my last final on Saturday. I just wish I didn't have to drive 45 min to use a TIG welder, but its better than not having one available at all.

I need to trim the horn mount a little bit, but they fit nicely overall. Also, I broke down and bought a WRX coolant expansion tank. The mounting spots I welded on the intake don't work, and the top bung points straight into the charge tube. The expansion tank will balance out the front of the motor anyways since there is no AC compressor.

We ran out of gas halfway through the first weld on my charge piping, so I came home, drank some beers, and picked off some low-hanging fruit. I've been stripping stuff for paint. Rust-free cars from Kansas are indeed rust-free, but dirty. Like several women I know, I mean, uhhhh.

BTW, taking apart the green car all the way was key in not breaking every clip I came across. Also, butyl glue can kiss my ass. I hate the ****, and I hope it gets banned.

You make me want to strip my car down and have the dents fixed and paint it.

How much do you think it would cost to have it painted and done right? If I stripped the car down first and there's a couple small dings in it. One is actually like a half inch deep gouge.

Material wise this is taking about $1500 worth of stuff to paint the whole car. Six quarts of reduced base coat, at least a gallon of high-solid clear, acid primer, polyester primer/surfacer, sealer, wax and grease remover, tape, abrasives, wool pads, and compound. I'm sure I'm missing something. You could cut the cost of clear in half with some cheaper stuff, but its really not worth it.

Labor is the big kicker. If I were to pay someone to do this 100%, it could easily be in the $6k range. Prep work is very time comsuming. I'm trying to coerce some people over here with beer and food to get some help scuffing all the jams.

I got the charge piping together tonight. I owe Matt a liter of Jag for putting up with me.

It went fairly well. Aluminum is tough, lol. I'd have to say I'm fairly pleased with how it fits. I was worried about things moving around between here and Matt's, along with how welding likes to pull things in funny places. The one really knarley spot is where I ran out of gas on Saturday. I kept trying and wondering why it didn't work, lol. I'll grind it down and go back over so it looks decent. I was getting the hang of it though. Its all about the rhythm.

I still need to build an intake that goes down into the fender well. Maybe this week,

I really need to get my own TIG welder. I went to a different friends house tonight to polish up the aluminum stuff. I welded the intake piping and sealed up the 5 holes that were in it since it started as a 3" N/A intake. I also added a spot to drill and tap for the BCS, a spot for PCV plumbing, and a spot for the IAC valve using the factory Legacy SS hose. I tried to clean up a couple welds from monday night with mixed results.

Now its time to strip for paint!

Thanks. Considering the amount of time i have working with aluminum, that means a lot.

This baby is straight USDM though. The shell was built in the states, lol.

Today was cleaning 240k worth of Kansas dirt...

For the stainless, I used my Century MIG which I picked up from someone on my local forum for $325. Not the greatest, but it works just fine, especially when I'm not trying to weld at 3 AM half in the bag.

For the charge pipes, I used my buddy's Miller Syncrowave 200. Pretty nice welder, and I could get used to having one at home. For the second round of aluminum stuff, I used a different friend's Syncrowave 250. That one was even nicer. It was quieter, and had a water-cooled torch. I had to bring some rod and some pure tungsten electrode, because all he had was the 2% thoriated.

I was at Airgas the other day and the guy said I could get into the the Syncrowave 200 for about $2k. More than I have right now. Maybe in a year and a half, since I graduate in May, and refuse to buy a new car.
